The Orchid is far less forgiving (IMHO) on how you wick it. The authentic one I played around with had a VERY fine line between dumping the tank and giving dry hits. I tried various configurations from wicks on deck, wicks over channel, wicks in channel, tried various density of wick tails, and never was able to get it functioning reliably at all. Plenty of other people seem to have had better luck so I'm holding off on a final judgement until I get a clone in to spend some real quality time with. I'm also thinking there might have been some defect with it, as it was one of the earlier ones out, and this is really the only rebuildable I've ever had issue with (other than design flaws)
First time I built a kayfun on the other hand it worked perfect. And after probably hundreds of builds since then, almost every single one in all my kayfuns has worked perfect. I might be more biased towards a kayfun build and that was hindering my ability to build the Orchid properly, but my friend couldn't build it either which is why I got a chance to have a go at it.
The performance, when hitting good, on the Orchid far surpassed the Kayfun though. Airflow is much better and you can get a lot more vapor from it because of the dual coil configuration. Flavor was still in the Kayfun territory, didn't seem any better or worse than any Kayfun I've used. There was MORE flavor because of the huge amount of vapor, but the flavor present was the same quality I'm used to with kayfuns. Just thought I'd mention that because there's two components to flavor, the quality and quantity. You can have strong flavor that falls flat on complexity and nuances, but luckily the Orchid gives both.
I'm guessing if you were used to building a taifun or fogger the Orchid would be an easier tank to set up, but if this is your first RTA, considering what I went through with the Orchid I'd really suggest a Kayfun. You can get the clones so cheap might as well get an Orchid AND a kayfun and compare to see one you like better.
