Heylo!

Okay, so I recently got an Orchid and I really think it has potential. The only problem? I cannot, for the life of me, figure out a build and wicking that will allow the damn thing to work properly. I had been through like 10 builds, all miserable failures, when I finally thought I built something that would work... Nope, after five hits fluid was literally bubbling our of the airflow holes. So that makes me think it was somehow bypassing the wicks I had placed over the juice channels when inhaling.

I just don't know about this thing anymore. I mean, I will probably just go back to my KFL+ V2 at this rate.

So I did some searching and I saw some threads like 'My first build on the Orchid' and other threads that had no pictures! Darnit. Onto Youtube.... Okay, that build, well the wicking, completely clogged the juice channels... Remove a bit of the wick? Only problem? There wasn't enough wick left to properly supply the coils. It has been a nightmare of either not supplying the wicks correctly and getting dry hits, or allowing too much supply and getting flooded.

Oh my goodness, so frustrated. So that leads us here. I just wanted to make a build thread for the Orchid where, maybe, some of you experienced Orchid builders could cure my debilitating ineptitude before I huck this thing against the wall. I should just get a Reo already...

Okay... Please include pictures in your posts, anyone who decides to respond.

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

I am having the same issues with the orchid v. 2. I have ran at least 16 different builds, even took it to a buddy that has a vape shop and for the first time in my life asked someone to build an atty for me. His tasted better, but as soon as I got in the car I noticed about 2 mL of juice dripping down the side of my brand new box mod. Incredibly frustrated, ready to trash this thing.

I hear rave reviews, I build the same set up the person is praising, and I get either no flavor, or it pisses juice like it's taking a urinalysis. I thought even my taste buds were dead from strong flavored juice so I used some store bought commercial garbage to try to give them a break from my own line of juice, no dice.

Currently, my buddy set it up with 12 wraps of 26g, pushing .57 ohm. I've ran everything from .27 to .81 with anything from 24g to 30g. I've changed coil bore diameter from 3/32" to 1/8" and everything in between.

Could really use any suggestions for how to get any kind of flavor in an orchid. My cheap fogger knockoff makes this thing seem like a shopping cart next to a lamborghini. Just frustrating as hell. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I do 2x 13 wrap coils of 28ga coming in at 0.9 ohm... Make sure the coil is so close to the air hole that you can't fit those tiny screw drivers underneath it (about half the width of the coil space under it) and stuff your cotton like the video below ... Huge boost in flavor this way and no leaks.... Also make sure you prime the coils with juice by covering the air holes and sucking in for 1/2 second

I hear ya buddy. I shelved it and went back to the Kayfun until further notice. Let me know if you find anything out.

Building as I type.

Trying 28g 11wrap 5/64" @ 0.91. About to wick n' try it out. Will update shortly.

Gonna be ...... if it turns out all the orchid hype was a bunch of fan boys raving because they didn't want to admit getting ripped off with a lemon atty, which is my current suspicion. Not ...... about price, ...... that I was excited about this before it was even available.... was eager to get a game changing rba that was a tank/chucker/flavor monster.

Reminds me of my grandpa going on about things that sound too good to be true

No hype here my two kayfuns (one authentic) no where match the airflow and almost match the flavor of my orchid... Build your cotton like the video I posted above and you won't regret it

One of the very first things to check on any of these bottom feeders is for a good seal. With it empty, cover the airhole/s and give a pull on it. It should be pretty hard to pull any air at all. I'm assuming a good seal on your trip tip as well and if not take it out and test without it.

If air is leaking around the tanks, try a little dental floss or something under the orings. For the chimney, make sure the oring is well seated and the top of the chimney is pressing up into it good.

On my chifuns I just lay a little of the wick end across the shelf, nothing down the channels, BUT, I do hold them vertical or the bottom slightly above vertical while vaping. (I made that habit back when I was vaping the pita ce2s lol).

I was just about to pull the trigger of the 8.xx dollar version from FT, but I may wait to see how this thread goes now lol.

I didn't see your post before, building and typing on my phone so kind of preoccupied at the moment, so my previous comment was a generalization, not directed towards your post.

Regardless, the 11 wrap 28g was a bust, my favorite juice, a blackberry cobbler with lemon zest icing, which is sweet and cheek bitingly tart, tastes like dry white wine with a perfume aftertaste. Vaping the same juice, same wattage, in a fogger while I build, and if you didn't see me fill it you'd swear I bought the juice in the orchid at a gas station, it's terrible.

Anyway, building #19 and watching your video, actually was the first tutorial I saw the day my orchid arrived in the mail, but I was watching your coils, not your wick.

Side note: everyone said to put the coils 2mm or more off the deck. I realized today most Americans don't understand the metric system, when a friend said the same then shoved the coils down till you couldn't fit cotton underneath. Lesson learned. Don't trust Americans using metric measurements.

Well, here is the build you suggested, I obviously used a different diameter than you as it clocks @ 1.05, still the highest resistance build I've done since a kayfun. About to wick according to your method. Will let you know how it turns out.

The point of this post, is to ask if my coil hight off the deck is right. It's approximately 0.75mm, at most.

For me, it wasn't/isn't an issue with a bad seal. The juice channels on this thing are wide and they are capable of literally draining the entire tank if it's not wicked rightish (I know, because on one of my countless failed builds on this thing, I tried a different way of wicking and the entire tank came pouring out of the air holes in about 5 seconds). It is seriously a PITA. Unlike the Kayfun, I'm thinking there is really only one way to build it and I sure haven't found it.

Probably smart to hold off lol.

I have had a heck of a time figuring this thing out myself. I have found, a conservative build suits this device best. I had first built with 26 ga, approx.5 - .6 ohms. The coils were a bit too big and aggressive, wound up melting the insulator a bit.

I have found 28 ga, .9 - 1 ohm works the best as the coils seem to heat and cool quicker. As for wicking, completely leave the juice channels free of cotton. I run a small piece of cotton through each coil extending less than a 1/2 in beyond the end of each side of the coil. I keep my coils raised a bit higher than the typical kayfun style build allowing cotton to fit comfortably under the coil. Simply fold the cotton under the coil, without covering the air hole. Lastly, I do not crank the chimney all the way down. I leave it a 1/8th to 1/4 turn loose. I get no leaking, or wicking issues of any kind. I am sorry not to post pics, as both of my orchids are full. I will try to post pics later today. The thing IS the real deal. Just have to find that perfect build.

Edit: Make sure to center the coil over the air hole.

Ok, issue found!

I compared it to a b&m orchid clone.... good jesus, this garbage I got off eBay isn't even close to being a decent clone. I thought maybe the orchid was just a shoddy constructed atty, but the differences are astounding. The post holes were ragged and would snag the wire, the hex key screws were wobbly and 2 were stripped straight out of the box, the build deck had lots of burs and was jagged and would snag cotton. I put a voltage drop device on it and there was my issue. Shouldn't be anywhere near 1 whole volt drop, that's insane.

Filed a claim with the seller. Then checked his feedback, guys got 10 negative in the past 30 days. Damn ebay, all those flashy stars but they don't throw up a warning when a seller wiTh 9,000 feedback has been mailing ouout bogus stuff.

Both of my Orchid's are Tobecco v2s. None came with the problems you speak of.
