A typical haboob preceding a monsoon storm (today's).
we also get micro bursts which is a sudden downshaft of wind but leaves results like a tornado.
It just doesn't have the circular wind pattern of a tornado, nor does it travel.
Did I get it right?
Nope. Just live here. Winds shift and come from the south.
It's a little more than that, but that's good enough for basics.
Maybe a fascination with flying/sailing and thermals helps a little too.
Do you know what sets the Sonoran Desert apart from all other deserts in the America's (north and south)?
That I would debate since they are expected starting July 2nd-Sept 30th every year. Asia and mideastern monsoons also appear at regular annual intervals. I don't know what's "out of season". They've never appeared in December as an example. Not in 2000's, not in 1800's. They are uncharacteristic for weather patterns during the rest of the year.
Hurricanes have become unseasonal since there's been several years the water temp in the Gulf hasn't dropped below 70F. There's no season anymore. Hurricanes can hit AZ via the Gulf but I wouldn't call those monsoons since there isn't that upper and lower air exchange. That's my understanding and nope, didn't look it up. Pretty layman's stuff.
Looks like aikanae1 beat me to it. We get the same monsoonal pattern in southern California--though usually not with such observable effects as Arizona.

If you don't want to put one of yourself in the thread, we understand, just open up paint and draw a stick figure! Or a famous self-portrait also works!!
Remember, we are looking for non-photographic representations of yourself =)
