My husband just called me (he's the one who's in Saudi right now) to tell me that he was awakened by a small fire that had started at the foot of his bed. He has a desk right at the foot of the bed that his laptop is on, and the headphones were touching it. Anyway, there was some kind of short inside the headphones, and ignited!

I've never heard of this before...maybe it'll never happen again, but I thought it might be a good idea to advise folks to unplug your headphones when you're not using your computer...

We might put everything in the house on powerbars so we can shut them off when we're not using them. That's just too freaky.

Just his luck...he just bought a really good mattress a couple of weeks ago cuz of his terrible back.

Actually it’s a very good idea to take caution when using power with any device unattended.

Great time to remind people that there is a small chance that any lithium ion battery can catch fire, when in a discharged state or during charging. This includes but is not limited to e-cigarettes. The same is true for your cell phone, lap top, cordless phone, iPod, camera ect ect..

When charging these devices it is best to select a place where if they ignite they will cause minimal damage. You do not have to charge all these devices in a munitions box in the fireplace, but select a place away from things that can ignite. Do not charge on your nightstand that is covered with magazines, Kleenex, cloths with carpet and a full waste pail under it. A clear spot you’re your kitchen counter is a much better choice. The same rule apply to storing these devices when not in use.

Be safe..
