They are smart. We just tend not to see it because we don't think of birds as being particularly intelligent.
I love crows. There is a place in Cali I've been many times where they sit on a roof peak directly above an entrance door, wait for humans to emerge and drop COPYRIGHTDMCA on them. Repeatedly. Obviously they have a sense of humor, or at least a sense of fun/amusement.
They know how to unzip backpacks that have a sandwich inside.... I've seen it.
