Is anyone else getting bombarded by Facebook spam from e-cig related groups?

In the last couple weeks I've been signed up BY SOMEONE ELSE to at least 4 e-cig related groups; a chinese manufacturer's group, a classifieds/swap group, and two retailer's groups.

It's really pissing me off because my e-mail is getting flooded with crap, but I don't know how to stop it. Can you block other people from signing you up for ....? Why does Facebook allow that at all? I should be the only one who can sign ME up for anything!

I'm also wondering, why now? Why are all these e-cig groups doing it all of a sudden? It seems unlikely to be just coincidence. I also wonder why a retailer would do that, take the risk of pissing off a potential customer (I assume they didn't realize that they were signing up a competitor)? I mean a group with multiple messages a day is WAY worse than an e-mail blast. :grr:

From FB's help center, there's no way to prevent being added to Groups, BUT... only your "friends" can add you to a group, and you should be notified when that happens via a post on your wall.

While (currently) you can't prevent it, you can leave the group, identify the "friend" who did it and either message them to find out WTH and/or un-friend them to keep them from doing it again.

As for timing, honestly I think it's hard to say. I'll go for months with nothing unusual happening, then suddenly a grunch of people start getting... shall we say, less-than-wise about what they click on and all spam breaks loose for a few days. A few un-friends later and everything gets sorted out. :)

FB really is the devil. If you ever read what all you allow them to do too your comp and with your info chances are you would never sign up for a FB account in the first place. In fact with LSO hacks and use of the Blackhole Toolkit 7 still running rampant i have my browser set up to block anything i don't like automatically. Most people think they are covered from attacks with Malware and Anti Virus but that's not the case anymore. LSO pretty much changed all that and if your not setup to defend from those your going to get hit with them (cant be detected by malware or anti virus).

The group spam is something your going to have to watch out for and you also need to start being abit more picky about your friends. Perfect example is say i am using an LSO hack. I get you in my group, you visit my page or you just randomly move your mouse cursor over a flash image i have on it. You don't even have to click the ad, i still got you. Now i can monitor everything you do on your comp and have the info sent back to me. Admin password to your site, your paypal account, borrow your membership ID to the local Gym ect.

Much like a child would laugh at their grandparents for saying "What's an email" kids today would also laugh at anyone who says "I am protected i have Malware/Anti virus protection". In the past that worked fine but the internet world changes all the time.

Anyway kinda ranting on here because i am at home having a couple drinks lol. Bottom line is while the chances are probably small you should still be careful with what you do and click on facebook. Don't just friend anybody because god only knows what they may try to send you from the group.

I get invites to Groups on Facebook that I sit scratching my head over. Folks don't care if you are interested in the topic, they just want to get a lot of people in aka high number group. Really the chase for fake reputation on the web can be amusing at times.

I go a step further than Un-Friending and use my personal "ban hammer" on people who add me to things I'm not interested in (they could have asked first) or who send me questionable material in the Message Center, etc.

I right-click their name and go to their Page, the one with their Wall. The I scroll down until I find Report/Block and click the link, then I block them.

If you don't some of these silly people have a tendency to send you hate messages. :glare:

I have no time for people's lack of manners and silliness on any medium.
