Roxics....

Can you hold out past the holiday? You could use the time to figure out what model you want and place an order online---which, for the time being, is really your best option.

Those smoke shops you described (there are several just like that here in Chicago, too) will probably 1. sell you an inferior product and 2. WAY over charge you. You won't find any bargains there.

I bought my first ecig from a retail shop. The kit had only one battery, one atomizer, a charger, and 5 tiny liquid filled cartridges. The dude who sold it to me tried to get me to buy a bunch of extra cartridges to go with it.

I hated the thing. I couldn't get much vapor out of it, I had no juice to drip or refill the carts, and the lack of an extra battery only added to the misery. The whole experience almost stopped me from pursuing vaping any further. I was thinking: "what's all the hype about? This sucks." A little patience and research on my part could have spared me a lot of frustration and saved me a wad of cash.

I realize that once you make the decision to try, you just want to get started. But can you stick with the analogs while you check out a few resources? Otherwise, there's a good chance that a quick purchase will end up giving you a negatively skewed sense of what vaping is about.

QFT. I fully agree and had a similar experience with this poster. I heard about ecigs and immediately ran downtown and bought the first one I could find without any prior research. I was immediately put off and hated the experience, but was determined to find a non-smoking alternative. So after bumming around the internet a bit I came across this forum (a smorgasbord of vaping info) and ordered my 510 with some of the best juice I have ever tried. Suddenly I loved the experience; a complete 180 degree turn around from my first "rushed" experience. Read up and you'll save yourself some cash, buyer's regret, and a bad experience. Good luck man!

Thank you guys so much for your input. Unfortunately I wish I would have had more patience and not jumped the gun this morning. Like the last two of you, I ran out this morning to a smoke shop and picked up the first e-cig I could find. I got totally ripped off paying $60 for a Health e-cigarette which I later found discussed on here by other members who were buying it online for $10 and even then not saying very good things about it. The taste is horrible and the amount of vapor is little. It came with one battery, one atomizer and 7 carts. Based on other reviews here it will probably last a week before dying.

It tastes like I'm smoking burnt electrons. It's very unpleasant and turns my stomach. I almost feel a little sick from it.

But that said, it was a learning experience. Although an expensive one. At least now I have a point of reference.

Since then I've been watching several youtube videos and reading some reviews and I think the next e-cig I'm going to try is the VaporKing from vapor4life. But I'm going to do some more research first.

I'm basically looking for something that would be a good all around basic full flavor 100 replacement. I want to be able to go to a bar for a night and vape one of these things without worrying too much about battery life. But I also want good throat it, taste and to be honest I kinda want something around the size and look or a regular cigarette.

The reason the vapor king looks interesting to me is because it's a two piece system. I'm not sure I want to get into the whole liquid refilling and all that kind of modifying. I'm looking for something simple and easy that has the capability to replace an analog cigarette. I'm also looking for something both my mom and my girlfriend might like since they are both going to ask me questions about it and maybe want to try the e-cig thing themselves. I know neither one of them is going to go through the trouble of refilling carts or anything like that.

I have a lot of questions and I may just start a new post about them.

Definitely nothing to feel bad about, as many of us have been there and done that too.

I started with the NJoy Npro, and I'll never regret the fact that it now sits unused.
Nor the fact that I spent well over $100 for it and some extra cartridges.

Those guys out there making these things available to the masses may be helping more than hurting.
But then again, how many people are trying them and giving up?

I don't know, but I do know that finding this forum is the real key to success.

Hey there roxics,
I'm not too terribly far away from you like 45 min south and just got done with my first ecig buying experience as well..so thought maybe I could help.
I don't know what all these numbers mean 401, 510, ect. I don't understand the difference? I'm looking for a place I can buy an e-cig with fast shipping so that hopefully I can get it by this weekend. I know it's thanksgiving week. Cheap would also be a bonus (under $40). Any suggestions?
the Numbers are simply the model numbers of each different model they most often clue you in to the manufacturer and size (either pensize, mini (about the size of a 100) or a super mini (about the size of a regular king size analog)...to further complicate things some suppliers just rename and rebrand these with different names
So sounds like you want something in a mini size...
so.. 510, or KR808D-1, 901, m401...each have their pros and cons but I'm only going to mention 2 of them here... the two that I narrowed it down to as what you're looking for and what I was looking for are almost identical.

Seems the 510 is one of the most if not the most for those of us too ecigs (and what I went with) good all around model, refillable cartridges, but pretty poor battery.

The other one you mention in the following quote, the VaporKing. Here is an example of the renaming or rebranding ploy as far as my understanding goes. It's simply the model KR808D-1 that vapor4life has chosen to call the vapor king but the supplier vaporkings (and other suppliers simply call the KR808D-1. In any case it's the 2 piece design (battery + cartomizer)

Ok, lets touch on that..you don't know if you want to get into the whole refilling of the cartridges thing I understand that.. However, remember that refilling carts will be cheaper and more economical in the long run (though you can refill the cartos yourself too). Also initially you'll be playing with nico levels until you find what works best for you..and relying strictly on buying and ordering prefilled cartomizers could get pricey fast..

Anyway, I checked a couple vendors and prices and what came in starter kits..
I went with a 510 starter kit from nHaler because it came with 2 batteries, 2 atomizers, charger, 5 prefilled cartridges, and my choice of 2 6ml sample bottles of ejuice... which should easily hold me for about 2 weeks so I can figure out nic strength and what I want to order juice wise.. and you can get an adapter to be able to use the KR808d-1 battery with the 510, if i choose to also try that model in the future too. shipping was fast (2-3 business days) and came in just under $50..he also carries the kr808d-1.

Cignot carries the 510, I hear their customer service is awesome, shipping super fast..however they were out of stock when I went to order...
Rocky Mountain vapor, also carries the 510, based out of Detroit there...was gonna ask if I could order and just drive up and pick it up but they were out of stock at the time as well..
Theres a few that carry the kr808d-1 other than V4L too,so shop around...from what I hear they've got some pretty good customer service as well though..

For what it's worth, I think the two-piece cartomizer is a good choice. I haven't tried VaporKing, but I did recently pick up a KR808D-1 from PureSmoker to see what it was like. If the VaporKing performs similarly, I think you're going to be very, very pleased. And honestly, I've heard lots of good things from people who use VaporKing, so I doubt you'll be disappointed.

I would suggest, though, that you still pick up some liquid. The cartomizers (integrated cartridge/atomizer) last a good, long while, but it's nice to have the option of refilling the cartomizers . . . makes it more economical.

You can watch all sorts of videos on the subject of refilling, but if you're lazy like me, you'll just drip a drop at a time into the small hole on the end of the cartomizer that screws into the battery, let it sit awhile, then vape away. Doing that, I can go hours without having to deal with liquid. Not a bad deal at all.

For going out and about, you wouldn't have to deal with liquid at all. Just bring an extra battery and an extra cartomizer, and you can put aside the spent cartomizers and refill a few when you find the time.

For the last week, I've been using cartomizers with high voltage mods, and even pushing 5-6 volts through the cartomizers, they've been lasting beautifully. Basically, I've been rotating through 3 cartomizers over a week's period, and all still perform well.

Yesterday, I tried the actual KR808D-1 . . . the cartomizers attached to the batteries for which they were designed instead of playing with cartomizers on high voltage mods. Works like a champ.

In my opinion, the KR808D-1 is a fine e-cig for the new vaper--very easy. And you should find it encouraging that someone who has a 510, a Screwdriver, a GG Grant, a Prodigy, a Protege, and an Xhaler is giving the KR808D-1 two-thumbs up. ;)
