Welcome , but oxidizing your wicks , is not causing the shorts . When you make a new wick , make sure the coils don't touch each other . When I first started making wicks and coils , a lot of mine popped , right away . After I made sure that I separated the coils , I stopped burning them out . But then , making wicks and coils is not for everybody . Some people never seem to get the hang of it . Try getting the small Phoenix re-build atty's , and buy some pre-made wicks and coils ( about 1.00 ea. ) problem solved .

I use a gas stove. The best success I have had is once the whole mesh is glowing red hot, I let it sit in the flame for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Then I immediately dunk in the water until it stops sizzling, and repeat 4 times. Then I coat it with e liquid dip the mesh into the flame just enough to get it to catch fire. When the flame goes out, I coat it again, and repeat flame and coat a total of 4 times. Then to cool the mesh, I soak it in the same glass of water. I also use the rolling paper trick.

Roll over that edge thats gonna end on the outside of the wick (So no stray SS strands stick out when its rolled). I oxidize the mesh before rolling (Once on each side). After rolling, i oxidize with a Blow Torch i purchased from Harbor Freight (http://www.harborfreight.com/micro-torch-42099.html). I oxidize from one end to the other, after each pass, i turn the wick 1/4 turn. After completing a full turn, i saturate with E-juice and burn. Then repeat oxidizing (4 more passes). Then do a ejuice saturation and burn again, then i go from there.
Make sure that the wick doesn't touch the bottom in the tank, and when wrapping a coil, make sure the Distance from Ground -> Wick & Wick -> Positive is as short as possible. Then, with the tank empty (wick dry) do some dry burns and watch your coil. Coil should glow evenly. Adjust coils until you get an even burn.
Now you should be good to go. Fill your tank and Vape away.

It took me a while to get the process down without resulting in shorts and uneven burns... take your time, have some patience. You'll get it eventually

As the title says, anyone tried this for DID?

I've seen alot of videos torching, dunking in water, burning with eliquid and done all of them. But my coil always shorts.

I'm already losing hope with my DID. :(
Personally I do not want the off products of combusting a "waxed wick" on my wick. Propane/butane all the way (ex cigar smoker)
