Just torch it, much easier. I've found that all this stuff people do to oxidize is unnecessary. Torch both sides of the sheet of mesh, roll, torch again if wanted but even this isn't needed.

I actually only torch once gently to just red hot to get rid of any oil on the SS and wire. Then I build the mesh and coil and pulse out the shorts. If you use a drill bit to make the coil on the rba it will be very round and cylindrical. Make the wick so it slides in easily, not tight. Takes me 5 minutes max to pulse out shorts.
