The worst part about Jiffy Pop (on an electric burner) is that you would shake it, and shake it, and shake it, and nothing would happen, for the longest time. Eventually, about the time your arm went into major laxidosis (I might have made that term up!) you would hear a single pop, inciting you to incur more major muscle damage. Shake again like crazy, and the puffball would slowly form. SLOWLY, not at all like it did on the TV commercials!!!

Once it was done, you were left with a little bit of popcorn, and a very thick layer of burned kernels that stuck to the bottom and sucked all the oil out. The popcorn that was actually edible was dry and tasteless. (Edible, as you might guess, is a relative term).

The saddest part is that back in those days, this was actually a treat!
I never seemed to have that issue with any Jiffy Pop I've encountered, sure a few burnt kernels stuck to the bottom but nothing major. Besides if it didn't work then we would have mountain pies to make up for them (two pieces of buttered bread, Comstock filling in the middle. fold the two together in the pie maker and in to the coals it goes. out comes magical yummyness).

Darn that sounds good, too bad I don't have any instant biscuits on hand...I've got the rest of it no problem there, I always keep a can of filling in the pantry for those rare occasions of a night time snack as mountain pies can be done on the stove top if careful :)

You all are not good for my diet

I'm on a diet to, a see-food diet...if I see food I tend to eat it. Been working out great for me...
The reality of the matter is I really should cut back on the number of fast food joints I visit though working IT really doesn't favor well for that.

Racehorse,
Competition only breeds competition

This new idea is a little too "PC" for me. We now have schools giving awards out to *everyone* because aw shucks, we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. ;)

There is a difference between good ol' fashioned healthy competition --- and that which bestows no benefit. (shallow stuff)

Ever try to play a really GOOD game of tennis with somebody who is not even a little competitive? Not really fun  I mean, I really like to have an opponent who puts their all into it and wants to steal a point from me.

Masterful accomplishment should be rewarded, and you have to compete against others in sports, even in things like poetry and writing contests, in debate clubs, in science fairs, etc. to establish that.

As for cloud competitions......um, does that take a lot of practice, skill, working out, commitment over years and years of time, like jockeys work to ride? Or like tennis players practice out on the court day after day, or like gymnasts do? Does it take the kind of commitment like training a retriever dog, or racehorse, months and years?

Uh-----No.

I mean, the hardware and ejuice is totally readily available to buy. Anyone can buy it, all you gotta do is open your wallet.

I guess I don't get it. But that doesn't mean I care if people want to do it safely. It is fun for people to get together around a shared interest and play around like that. Just that it's not really something that *impresses* me as any kind of real accomplishment. :shrugs: Chugging beer never did either though and plenty of people did that at my university . as long as alcohol poisioning is not involved, it's kid stuff that will always be going on.

Marian-berry pie, not sure I've tried it er, I'm confused (doesn't take much, actually an amusing pastime for my co-workers :) )

Marionberries are kind of blackberry developed here in Oregon (named after Marion county) they are considered the cabernet of blackberries with a deep complex flavor and large dark berries. You can't pass a tourist trap without someone trying to sell you marionberry candies, jams or pies.

OMG my dad when he's in a wine making mood makes the best blackberry wine with marionberries and local apples.

Thread derailment much?! :glare:

Do they still make that Jiffy Pop popcorn? Can it be used on the these stoves that have the ceramic cooking tops? Those are questions that are just burning a hole in my brain....

can ya tell this is a desperate attempt at changing the subject? Ya can't? Good.... whew

I blame that Robino chick. She's a bad influence, why not exile her to that VelvetUnderwear site?

(Too soon?)
