I was driving and just happened to reach in my pocket looking for my cell. Only thing in there was the Precise and it was laying sideways. it was blazin freakin hot. I caught it just in time. didn't burn the atty which is amazing. Those RN 4075's are pretty bullet proof. tastes like crap now though lol.

anyone devise a cover with hardware store stuff to keep that from happening? i put one of the spacers in in last week to shorten the throw. before that it had none, but the throw was too long and hard on my hands.

I keep my p18 in my pocket quite often and found that getting the stiffer spring helps a lot with this issue.

thx. i have the stiffer spring also, but i swapped it out when i added a spacer. with the stiff spring it would kind of catch and then go further and fire. it was a bit of a pain. i'll try playing around with it some more... maybe take the spacer out and use the light gauge spring again.

I had an 18650 in there luckily. When i do 6 volts, I keep it in my hand to watch it. I'm a real chicken when it comes to electronics ;)

You said one the heavy spring was catching a bit? Check the ends of the spring where the coils end, one customer said they had the same problem and they bent in the ends of the springs ias they were bent out ever so slightly and catching. I know it makes a bit longer throw on the switch, but i recommend setting the switch up to activate below the horns by removing the washer thats on there.

thx for that tip david. yes something would definitely catch on there. I thought it was the brass X center post, but i will check the spring. I thought about swapping out the horns, but there's no way it's catching on them.

it came with no spacer, so i just added one. I'll take it out again. better safe than sorry. If it still catches, i'll send it back to you with $5 to have a look at it.

If you want to make it even more pocket-safe, try putting an o-ring on the button collar so it's betweeen the collar and the body. This will bring out the horns more so you have to press it farther up into the horns to fire. You can quickly see what this feels like by unscrewing the collar a little.

Another cause for catching is the round edge of the button ledge touching the inside threads. Noalox on the inside body threads will cure that.

i know you will david. trouble is i would have to part with it lol. i'll play with the springs this week and noalox it up again. john and i were talking awhile back about a rubber thing like what goes on door stops only larger to pocket it w/o the button going off. what's weird is i put it in my pocket all the time, but that one time..

i think i know what you mean robosax about the 0-ring. my trouble when ppl explain how to do things, i get lost in the conversation and haven't clue what to adjust. my brain is really a mess. that's why i have a lot of homebrew mod parts, because it looks easy in pictures, but putting into practice, I never could do it.

I'll look at the spring and see if something is off on it, or what could be catching. i'm thinking it has to be the spring, because w/o the spring the horn and button glide in and out. i'll mess around with it and send it in david if it keeps catching.

believe it or not, i don't have one scratch on it! that's one thing i love about it. i needed a bulletproof ecig :)

I have a P16, so a bit smaller.

I use a reading glass case -- basically a plastic tube. It's inside dia. tapers top to bottom. My precise wedges in so it can't bottom out, thus can't fire. Has a nice cap to keep the P16 safe and snug.

Check out wally world etc. You might find one to fit. Of course we really don't need reading glasses that's just for old people :)

Hey man I know what you mean about it looking easier than it really is but I promise you that you can do this one. All you do is unscrew the bottom part of the p18(the switch and horns) then hold the entire switch assembly with the horns so the center post is facing you. If the spring is still in place on the assembly remove it and set it aside. Then place one of your o-rings that came with the p18 over the threads and press all the way down till it is just below the threads, then you just replace the spring and screw the whole assembly back in. The only thing is, you will see the o-ring, it will be between the switch and the body but it will give you an extra 1/8th inch or so before the button will make contact. So just to reiterate, on the outside of the p18 starting from the bottom you will see the switch, then the horns, the the side of the o-ring, then the body. Let me know if this might be a solution for you.

thank you for the explanation! i can do that lol. i still haven't done it's weekly cleaning yet, and it went off again the other day in my hoodie pocket, so i'm going to give this a try. meanwhile, i'm laying it on a table. i'm also going to try taking out the spacer and continue to use the light spring. i need easy push with my hands, but not so much travel that it takes 2 pushes to get it all the way in.

i'm going to order some more 808 manual batteries to use when i'm out for now. I've looked locally for a flashlight case with a clip, but so far i haven't found one. I'd really like to use it when i'm out. I walk my dogs on a mobility scooter and can be gone for hours, (3 brute dogs) so pocket friendly is something i'm really looking for. I'm going to take it to lowes one day and see if i can find a rubber cover for the button end too. it would have to be something i could actually pull off with my crappy hands.

if i find a sure fit, i will definitely share it with you guys. I'd order online, but there is no way i could tell if it was going to fit.

thx for your help guys.

Hi
Was looking at this as my next purchase but I had concerns about it going off in my pocket as i couldnt see how HORNS was gonna stop it from going off in my pocket.
Although it looks very nice I think you have answered my concerns as having been in as scary situation once with a e-cig going off in my pocket whilst in the middle of a race sat in a car trying to get something out of your pocket whilst sat down is hard enough put with gloves on even harder at 130mph even harder , but managed to get it out and slung it in ther passenger footwell , (forgot to remove it ) so i dont want that to happen again .
So has any one modded one to make completely safe ??
Regards

If you lengthen the throw of the switch by removing one or two pre-installed washers, it will be extremely difficult for the unit to fire on its own in your pocket. The optional heavier springs available is a nice solutions too...

I would have to try it to be convinced, as this surley would then make the operation of the unit using the weakest finger (little pinky) even harder .

It needs to be disabled.
Dont get me wrong I like it but i'm gonna have to think how to stop the operation of the switch , without it showing
ECF SAYS
A kill switch
A mod ideally needs a second switch that disconnects the batteries totally during transport and storage, or if a short-circuit occurs, or if overheating occurs while in use.
These are much easier to fit to boxmods than tube mods - but it is generally recognized that the practice of part-unscrewing the atomizer for transport in pocket or purse is not a satisfactory solution, some form of safety interlock is required.

I would say look at David's ShockWave http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/super-t-manufacturing/122789-shockwave-26650-mod-teaser-pics.html It has a cut off switch and a side button.

Yes seen it , looks good also ,,,available DECEMBER sometime .
Made a copy of the precise switch from pics and videos and fitted it to my mod at the moment works well but cant lock it off
I have done a redesign of the precise switch so it will lock ..
Just got to make it now to see if it will work . !!!

This is curious. You don't even own a Precise. Second, the Precise was designed NOT to have a lock so as to maintain its asthetics as designed. It was designed to have the button activate below the horns, thus providing protection at all times. One of the problems with a lock is you have to remember to lock it for it to be effective. If you read the OP original post, they set up the button to activate above the horns, which one is able to do at their descretion and comfort, but then, keep in mind, it may activate easily. I noticed you have created parts for other mods before and some of the hard feelings and drama that followed. My advice to you would be to create your own unique PV.
