Okay, I jumped at some batteries during Black Friday, and I think I made my first mistake purchase. I found an entire thread that I thought was talking about these, but as it turns out, the thread got derailed by the fourth post when discussion turned to 'the best 18650 batteries'... there were charts, graphs, deep discussion etc, but the actual model being discussed was not in any of it.

So, with that in mind...

I bought two of these, with plans of using them in a ZMax Mini I will be getting through a CoOp here on the site. In the mean time, I have been using them on a mech (Kamry K101) with a 2 cent fuse and a Kanger Protank (2.5 ohm coils)

So far, it's been just fine, lasting me all day in tandem with my MVP2. However, I recently got worried that this will blow my face off. Am I right? Will the fuse keep it from turning into a pipe bomb? Or should I not even consider using it any more?

I am also getting in to RBA/RDAs and know not to go sub homing with this (or anything, really... I prefer flavor to clouds).

Will I be safe if I keep my coils above say, 1.5 ohms?

I tried using Ohm's law, but with so many variables (dropping voltage as the battery drains, etc) I got a little confused.

Help?

I use them in a mech with carto tanks, I have a 1.25ohm dual coil on it right now without problems, thats 3A. As long as you stay above 1ohm you won't have any problems, the max discharge on those are 6.8A, the Panasonic NCR18650PD and NCR18650PF are the ones with 10A max discharge and work well in VV/VW mods.

using ohms law calc and a mech it is easy to figure always use 4,2v (the full charge) and use a battery that is bigger then the amperage you get.

for a regulated mod there is a small problem of knowing how much the mod really pulls out of the battery.

many people assume "my mod has a 3.5 amp limit so i am safe"
but if you set the mod to say 4 volts the mod has to pull more amperage from the battery and convert this to the higher voltage you set.

so a 3.5 amp mod may actually be pulling 6 or more amps (it will depend on how efficient the chips are) you cannot magically get 4 volts from a battery that only has 3.6 volts left.

See, I am glad I asked. I had the oppisite assumption, and it was based on cruising these forums.... the problem is that when people ask about one thing, the conversation quickly turns from "the specific model the question was asked about" to "this is the best model you should use" and goes from there, each follow up commenting on the new information...

So, as long as I stay above 1 ohm, the battery in question would be best on my mech, and not put into my VV/VW. Got it.

Now I have to shop for ANOTHER 18650 for the ZMax Mini I have coming. Drat.

Does this hold true if I am using a VV/VW device and keeping my coils over say, 1.2 Ohms?

In technicality thats a maybe. In truthfullness in a mech especially with the fuse you mentioned you are alright, it will get you by until you can get replacements that are better, say an AW IMR 1500mah 18650, the 2000mah AW IMR is lower amp discharge than the 1500mah though. I'd suggest searching "Baditude"s blogs and recent posts, he's got a nice table of excellent battery break down, check the list and start shopping around, hth

And the $64,000 question: Can I use the Panasonic NCR18650B I mentioned in my Siegelei Z Max Mini when it arrives?

The others I got are the Efest IMR 18350 High Drain. In all honesty, I will probably keep the ZMax in the 18350 size most of the time (why I got the mini in the first place) I trust that the Efest are the correct ones.

The ZMax Mini likely uses 18350 size batteries; they should be of the high drain variety. The Panny's are 18650 size, so no go for them.

As Thrasher & BardicDruid said, regulated mods use PWM (pulse width modulation) which requires a high drain battery. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/provape/334831-technical-why-high-drain-batteries.html

IMHO, there's no logical reason to use protected ICR batteries in mods. IMR (li-min) or hybrid batteries are a better alternative, as they are "high drain" and "safer chemistry" ideal for both regulated and mechanical mods. There's a large list of IMR and hybrid batteries in this link: Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected?

ncr18650B good for 1 ohm and higher resistance. This battery already have resettable fuse built in, which is cool (thank you Panasonic :).

Problem
Zmax MINI is not made for 18650, probably that is one reason they call it mini.

For mechanical , I highly recommend going for ultra high drain SX22. Keeping voltage drop at minimum is very important for quality vape, and in mechanical there is nothing between your coil, and battery.

Panasonic make this battery in both protected and unprotected, never assume all of them are the same protected version.

I was talking about fuse which is inside unprotected Panasonic cell, nothing to do with protected Panasonic battery. Many people do not know about this, but it's worth mentioning. It is all about safety. Vape safe.:2cool:

Hmm. Funny thing is, I bought these on BF from a vendor of Vaping stuff. I will use them in my mech, and always recharge in the evenings.

I am getting an extension tube so the Zmax Mini will use wither 18350 or 18650. Woo hoo!

Not sure about this 'internal resettable fuse'... this is the first I have heard of it. I will continue to use my 2 cent fuse.

Always use "2 cent" fuse when you can.
I was just saying that you are even safer with Panasonic cells. More safety, always better.
