We only pay for the slow plan but I'm thinking it should still make it run a little better.

If your old one isn't getting or putting out the signal it should... a new one of anything will certainly help even an older DOCSIS v2 type ( probably like you have ) ... Getting one that supports DOCSIS v3 lets you also futureproof it some.

Also with the WiFi side of it... that is a dual band one. That means if you have newer wifi devices you can select to connect to the 5Ghz side which will have less traffic in your neighborhood... which also helps with your speed then.

I don't know how to check how many Mbps we have?

Go to Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test and click the Begin button... don't click on the ad links they have on the other parts or you may get something installed you don't want/need. ( I bet your wifey knows about this already... )

I actually got more accurate speed test using the site I mentioned... what is odd, they are using the same engine ( supposedly )
