Is dere really any major differences tween 7 and the 8 RedSock ? besides the touch screen thingy ?

Yes and no...

Technically Win8.x is a lot better and has cleaner code in it than Win7 ... so it runs faster. It's security has been upped from what Win7 had but some users complain about it... but that increase in security means it's also less likely to get infected... still, infections can get past the best security so it's not a big advantage, just some. Then there is the Microsoft support for them... Win7 support will go into what they call extended support this next year... so it won't be getting more than mostly security updates at that point and few if any bug fixes.

With add-on programs like Classic Shell... you can get the standard start menu and desktop back... so to me, it doesn't make sense to go with Win7 UNLESS you have software that you must use and it doesn't run on Win8.x

Oooo.... If Fran want's to put it together and install Windows herself... I could easily list her what parts I'd recommend if I knew what she wants out of system... Of course, then she'd have to handle warranty stuff also if something did happen.
