Ollie - Check your alternator...that is what my car was doing...working fine then not...could be the issue.

Excellent suggestion to look at... worn or stuck brushes in the alternator would explain it having power and then not and it'd just be running off of the battery....

could be lots of stuff if it is worse in damp weather try the distributor cap,rotor could be cracked or a fuel filter mine was on the inside of the frame about even with the drivers door,if it has been sitting for a long time like over a month put some good gas in it and a can of sea foam carb might be screwed from this crap fuel they sell now days if it has the old style HEI with the coil on top buy blue streak caps and rotors (napa) they don't burn through as fast as the others,Those HEI Dist eat rotors for lunch I always had a known good spare in the glove box
Oliver don't think it's your problem but you want AC plugs in that motor and on a good year they last about 12,000 miles
