Ok... I'm joinin' Yimmie and getting me a new camera... a Nikon D3300
... only I didn't take much of my own advice ( but for some good reasons )...
Money of course played a big role but only to a point...
I didn't get a second longer telephoto lens for that reason, it would be cheaper had I got it with it but I think the one I'd want, they didn't "kit" with it anyway. The other items they throw into the kits, with the exception of the memory cards, are things I've already have or don't need. They are handy for those that don't have anything yet though.
When I compared this one to it's big brother ( the one Yimmie ordered )... the 39 focus points that hers has are really nice compared to the 11 mine will have... this alone makes autofocus no matter where your subject is in the frame much nicer. I'm currently used to only having 3 on my Olympus, so the 11 is a big upgrade and much of my subject matter is either centered or must be manually focused like the lightening, star and Moon shots that I enjoy so much. So while I gave this option up to save money some... the next part more than makes up for it... She will also have a tilt out screen that I won't have and there are many times that is handy.
I will have lower noise levels at higher ISO settings... in short, not as many specs in dark sky shots. I also have a slightly larger viewfinder, I seldom use the back screen much. In fact, the only time I have used the back screen was when I am manually focusing the Moon or similar shot. That's also why a tilt out screen isn't a big loss for me as it would be for most people. I'll also get a little longer battery life with about 700 shots vs 600. Also I'll see slightly better color depth with 24.3 bits vs 24 ( not that I'll notice that one )
She'll get GPS so she can reference where she took a shot and I think hers has WiFi which is only an add-on feature for mine. I usually remember where I took a pic but the WiFi would be nice so I could automatically send the pics to my smartphone or computer. She also has a few other things that are a little better.
The ETA is about next Friday for mine... I suspect she has hers by now.
