I'm sitting here... thinking about if I want to try a food experiment tonight out or not...

Tonight, I'm having another round of the seasoned pork ribeye's and potatoe's I picked up... but some steak sauce was sort of sounding good although I don't have any on hand. I rarely get in the mood for steak sauce and when I do, I never know if I'm actually wanting A1 or Heinz 57 on any particular night... so I usually just don't buy either since they are likely to get old before I've used them up anyway...

What I usually crave on these occasions.. is the twang they introduce as much as the rest of the flavors. What I'm thinking of trying is mixing some Sweet Baby Ray's Honey BBQ sauce with some lime juice... not quite a bold tangy steak sauce but as I'm thinking of it the sweet and sour contrast may still turn out OK... and lime goes pretty well with pork ( BBQ goes with anything )

I've got a 1/2 hr or so to consider it... so while waiting, just thought I'd share the idea

The twang of the lime with that particular BBQ... isn't quite a match. I did a search on the two steak sauces ( only reading a single recipe for each ) and they are using either apple sauce ( H57 ) or orange juice ( A1 ) as their twangy portion... they also didn't have a BBQ sauce in them, both using ketchup as their base.

I ended up adding some onion and garlic powder at first ( just whatever looked about right )... then some Worcestershire sauce to bold it up a bit... then some fake balsamic vinegar... finally just a little bit of chili powder for a little more bold and a touch of heat.

I haven't tried it with the pork yet ( that is cooking now )... the sauce tastes ok... but I'm thinking orange juice for the next experiment as the twang. I could be found wrong and it may work just fine as is... but I'm thinking it needs a lot of work. ( and probably cooking it down to do it right ).
