I have used e-cigs for a few months now and after having a USB passthrough for a couple of months and nearly using it most of the time it seems to have died, or is dieing. It doesn't seem to work most of the time and now the quality has started drop greatly. My normal batteries work fine, and have have tried cleaning the end point with a cloth or a tissue, but it doesn't seem to help anymore.

I just had this same problem 2 days ago.Mine was a short in the wire. One of the wires broke and only would work if i moved the wire a certain way.My short was easy to find I just started from one end of the cord and moved my way to the other bending the cord to look for the flimsy spot. Then I cut it there and stripped both ends of the wire and then twisted the wires back together(Red wire to red wire and black to black)Then i taped each wire so they dont touch and the taped them both up with sum electrical tape.Make sure your PT is NOT plugged in....lol

I have two PTs, and both of them have the thick cable, which is coiled up near the USB connector.

Can you post a pic or a link to where you got your PT?Might help as others may have the same PT and have had the same problems.Theres so many different PT's

I don't have a pic at the moment, I got mine at V4L, but you have to pay shipping. I thought the manufacturer made them all like this now, but maybe not. Mine are k808d1 type, but I have adaptors and can also use 510, 4081, 901 on the PT. Vapor4Life only sells this k808d1 type, but I wonder if other suppliers sell different models and STILL use the thicker heavy duty cord which is coiled up near the USB connector.

(p.s. I have a manual white one and a manual gold one, by the way. )

Ok...start at the PT end of the cord and bend about a inch of cord at a time....if the cord bends funny or unevenly that should be the short. The cord will crease or bend uneven.Take your time...if you cant find it then the short could be inside....just remove the rubber plug that the cord goes into the PT.You should see a red wire and a black one.You can look inside the casing and see if the cords came off the solder points or gently pull on the wires to see if there still conected. If not then u will have to solder them back.

OR you could buy/borrow a multimeter and get a definite answer, wires can be kinked and still conduct electricity

Dont use them on your PC - if it shorts it'll kill your motherboard.
Get a USB/AC wall plug like this one 2 amp AC to USB Adapter, ideal for Passthroughs (these guys are out of stock btw) from Walmart, or Ebay or somewhere that sells electrical goods.
As for reliability of PT - the 5v ones ive used have been wonderful and the 3.7v ones (which have an inline battery-in-a-box) are variable. Some last AGES and others either get broken (thin wires, so easy to break accidentally) or the batteries go flat really fast and need replacing.

j0ker, ECF contest official, fried his motherboard w/a passthru. Go down to the lower left-hand corner of your computer screen and type in "motherboard" in the little search function thingamajig if you want to read them. The guy who fried his work computer's post is there also. Anyway, practice safe vaping, lol. :D
