Hi all....I've read differing posts on whether or not a passthrough will work on a laptop. I'm ready to purchase one....but spend most of my time on my laptop, and was wondering. I've heard that it is too powerful to work in the port.....another place I read said its fine. I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite Laptop and a Joye 510 if that helps. Thank you!!

It should be fine, but there have been concerns raised about the load that the PT pulls damaging the port. I have not had this problem at all, but I do use an external powered usb hub on my desktop for PTs. I have OTOH had port issues when using an e9 PT which does not have a batt box, and operates on the full 5V usb power, unlike the 510 PT which uses the usb to charge the batt, which then powers the atty. If you use an AC/5V usb inverter, which plugs into the wall, both of these examples are removed from the computer entirely.

I guess the message is use at your own risk, shouldn't be a problem with the 510 PT, but there are ways of removing that risk and still use a PT.

Id be careful using on a laptop. I would suugest to you
USB Dual Power Adapter
1.95 power usb adapter.
These are great and well made..
Dont let the price fool you..
This guy ships fast too..

I agree with the quality. I bought one of those for my e-cig batteries, and it is nice. I was thinking of getting a 2nd one just to have around.

I have a $200 motherboard that's dead because of it. I wished I would have bought a $15 powered hub. It would have been cheaper than buying a new motherboard.

Ouch!! Was this from a 510 PT, or one of the "straight-wire" PTs, like PS?

BTW, doots, I got one of those AC/USBs too, but it died after about a month. Ok, for the $4.00 including shipping, but I think my no-batt GreenSmoke PT fried it. I'm using a beefier version of this from radioshack now without issues so far.

I bought a travel adapter kit from Target for charging iPhones. The salesman thought it would work for the e-cig PT. It plugs into a wall socket and has a USB port. The output is 5V, 1 Amp. Do you think it will work on a PT and not damage either? Thanks!

I dont think it would hurt anything but you really want a 1.5 to 2.0 amp to do 5v.

Sorry for being so dense when it comes to anything electrical, but does that mean it won't work with my 510 PT? Is it the right product but wrong amp or is it the wrong product, too?

If it is lower amps, you risk frying the power source, as in the port or the mother board, as far as I understand. Also won't charge as well or as fast...I think.

Thanks Kurt, I think I'll take it back and go to Radio Shack. Do you remember what you paid for the one you bought there?

I had no idea that pass-throughs could be troublesome. I am using one on my old G3 Mac that I hadn't had a use for in years... until now lol and it works fine. Loving the pass-through that I got via a trade on classifieds. I never would have bought one....but now that I have one..wouldn't want NOT to have one. I never smoke around my work station; hence, no desire for a pass-through. BUT definitely a must have with an usb ac adapter or something you do not care about like my G3 powerbook. It sleeps and vapes like a champ.

fyi..if you can solder and have old power adapters that you don't use... under five volts or so..it may be modified to use as a pass-through. I am about to do that with an old Dlink router battery supply cord 5 volt that is collecting dust. Do a search..I am sure you can find instructions.
