I have an acrylic patriot clone that I picked up a couple weeks ago. Have air holes drilled out, etc, works really well...except...the position of the air holes almost a 1/4" over the rim of the deck. Since everyone says to have the air holes lined up with the coils, I have the coils raised up to be in line with the holes.

The problem this raises is with wicking. Because the coils are up so high, I can't get more than a hit or two (big lung hits) before having to add more juice since I can't have a bunch of cotton around the coils.

Any suggestions on wicking it better? Can I lower the coils so they're not right in front of the air holes without sacrificing a lot of vapor production?

You can lower the coils a bit, angle the coils up to and including a vertical orientation... or place a "bed" of cotton under and/or behind the coils - so that juice is supplied, both inside and out.

You can do any, or all three if you wish... there are very few "rules" to coil placement/alignment.
