I recently picked up a patriot clone from a local B&M for about $15. I have been trying to get this thing to vape half way decent with no luck.
I have tried:
Single 30ga. coil at 1.6 ohms loose and tight with OC and rayon wicks. I am using an iTaste vv and usually start low at 6W and gradually go upwards to about 8W. I covered the hole on the non-coil side and it seemed to vape ok but I seem to be tasting wick all of the time unless I draw very slowly.
Dual 32 ga coils at 1.3 ohms combined at 7W I can get a decent vape if I work at it. Again a mediocre vape and still get a little wick taste if I don't draw slowly.
My coils are rolled around a precision screwdriver #0 phillips is what the pack says. Caliper says 2.37 mm or 0.093 in. Is that too large? For now it seems like 6 wraps loose but even around this mandrel seems to be doing ok. Do I need to do smaller coils and possible longer by using 30 ga? Is touching coils a necessity for a decent vape?
The wicks for each coil are about the length of the bottom of the unit with the tail closest to the wall tucked under the coil, and the other end just hanging out in the bottom.
I was wondering do I need more airflow by drilling the air holes out? Do I need more power? Do I need both?
Sorry if this sounds dumb but are RDA's a lung hit only device? I am used to the way I smoked with mouth draws followed by an inhale. My EVOD and T3s clearos do this task just fine. The RDA seems too airy for mouth draws and it appears that lung hits are the only way however I noticed that if I draw for too long I get wick taste... again.
I like to keep the well fairly moist but seem to get the bast vape when the wicking starts to turn white. How much liquid needs to be in the bottom? Is is possible to have too much? Do I need to raise the coils further off the well and have them almost suspended in air? Currently the bottom part of the coils are even with the lip of the well.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
