Ok so did my very first coil build and got a .59 reading on my ohm reader with 28g canthal wire, seems a bit hot or is it always going to taste that way sub ohming?

Its gonna be a much warmer vape. As said try moving the air hole around, I usually end up facing the coil. I drill the hole to 1/8 to let as much air in as I can, and because I like my rda's wide open. It may be to airy for you, only you know how much draw you like.

What battery are you using? At .59 ohms you're at the threshold on safety for a 10 amp battery. I would use a 30 amp sony VTC 4 or 5 Or purple efest 35 amp.

I usually vape in the .37-.41ohm range on my genny's. My RDA setups are in the .2ohm ballpark. I dont like a warm vape and avoid certain coil builds because of it. What kind of coil did you build? I prefer dual nano's in my genny's and quad nano's on my RDA's, both with organic cotton, using 28ga wrapped 6 to 7 times on an 18ga needle. They heat up and cool back down quickly. And of course proper wicking and airflow play a big role in keeping the temps down.
I opened my patriot up too 5/64 from stock if it an original version like mine. I am running dual .49 ohms with 5 wraps 28 gauge around a 3/32 drill bit. Not too warm of a vape. Always try my setup one or two more wraps.
3/32 is my choice but like others. My builds get down to .24-.34 so I need more air. How are you building? Silica and traditional wraps or micro coil and cotton maybe?

Single or dual coils? That would be a tiny single coil, like 3 wraps on 3/32" If it's a dual coil, then it's probably the physical bulk of the wire putting out more heat. I find for 28 gauge that I keep going back to dual micros at about 0.34-0.4Ω. They're nice and small, the heat is very manageable, but they still perform pretty well.
Also, as the others said, 3/32" air holes, lined up with the coils. It really helps to enlarge them a bit.
With a fresh battery, a 0.59Ω build would have you pushing just under 30 Watts. To me, the stock air holes on the Patriot are too small to provide sufficient airflow for that.
As others are suggesting, drilling out the holes is one way to go. I would also check out the various RDAs available with adjustable airflow.
