Would it be advisible for everyone to just switch over to AlertPay?

Well here is what I got back from Alertpay, when I asked them; Since they restrict tobacco products, if they restrict e-cigs... seems a little harsh to me...

Hello Mr. Raven,

My name is xxxxxxx and on behalf of the Business Development team, I thank you for your interest in AlertPay.

AlertPay can provide you with service. However, please know that certain conditions apply to your industry type. The following are our guidelines for e-cigarette sellers:

1) All e-Cigarette merchants must sign up for a Business account.
2) As a new merchant you are subject to a 3 month probationary period*
3) Payments are subject to our restricted fee structure which is as follows:
a) All AlertPay balance payments are subject to a fee of 3.9% + $0.59 per transaction.
b) All credit card payments are subject to a fee of 6.4% + $0.59 per transaction.
4) All credit card payments will be held for 7 days before being released during probation period.
5) Mastercard payments will be prohibited on the payment page due to rules set forth by Mastercard. (Visa & AMEX are available).

*Probation period entails no withdrawals within the first 30 days followed by the implementation of a rolling reserve** to cover any possible chargebacks or refunds. The reserve will start at 10% of all revenue. This reserve can be removed when good standing with AlertPay has been achieved.

**Rolling reserve for high risk merchant account is a percentage of your total sales which is withheld by a credit card processor for six months in respect of possible future chargebacks. In month seven of your trading your rolling reserve will be released to you for the first month of trading, in month eight your reserve will be released for month 2, so you will always have a reserve of six months due to you by AlertPay.

I don't what they mean about Mastercard. It is harder to sign up with Alert Pay. You have to submit a picture and on and on.

The charges seem rather high at 6.4 plus .59 per transaction. Pay Pal charges somewhere around 2.0% and is much easier to sign up.

I think most merchants could just request the customers submit their payment be sent through paypal to their emails.

Hello to all!! I've been on the forums for some time now looking for conversations exactly like this. You may have come across me at sometime or another. I manage a credit card processing firm and hold the merchant accounts for DOZENS of your peers. My corporation has been underwriting and approving e-cig vendors for credit card processing as well as we have a gateway that is compatible with every shopping cart we've run across, volusion, zencart, etc. etc. etc. I have been in the acquiring industry for almost 10 years and am very familiar with most of the competition as well as their tactics. Alertpay is a good company, as long as you have a retail business, 700+ fico score, 10k in the bank, and have a letter from god that you can do no harm. If you can't provide this for them, you're paying 4-6% per transaction, over $30.00 monthly, a large percentage of your money going to a reserve account, and at the end of the month you may have enough money for a happy meal. ANY supplier in need of a merchant account should contact me directly. Feel free to do some research on myself and my company. You will be surprised with the response you get from my clients/your peers. I am an E-cig user, e-cig supporter, and have been for over a year and look to do everything possible to help the industry, even if it's only giving you a payment conduit to help keep you in business.

Volusion is a cart and inventory software company that is very good and most suppliers i have seen use them. After that you need a company to process all your transaction and this is where (merchant-now) comes in to complete the cart software. Merchant-now is the banking processor that daily takes collects and deposits funds in our bank account. Hope this helps you understand a little better. If you want to know more PM me and give me a number and time to call you.
