I wonder...can one soak some paper of some kind -- nice hemp paper or some such -- with our e-juice and suck on that? Someone here mentioned a drop on the tongue, but that seems not too safe to me.

I wouldn't do that, this stuff can be very poisonous if swallowed. Just go get you some Nicorette gum to chew on.

I just got back from an Alaskan cruise. I was really nervous before I went about customs and my ecig stuff. We went thru customs 4 times and had NO problems. We carried on a whole bag of electronic stuff, ipods, cell phones, laptop, e cigs, my powerpack, all my chargers, cords and etc. I wrapped all the cords with the whatever they belonged to, including my passthroughs and threw everything in the case. I was most concerned about a flat metal ecig case I have, but again no problem. I put my liquids in my qt. sz baggie and it went right thru. Whatever they were looking for, I didn't have it. We were never even asked questions. Even going thru the security getting on the cruise ship, about 6-7 times. I packed two cases with batteries and atomisers and packed one in my checked baggage on the way there, just in case. But on the way back I didn't even bother to do that. I even had about 2 ml. of juice in my purse I had forgotten was there, and it went thru without a problem.
Yes, I vaped on the plane! Not out in the open, I am pretty shy and don't like a scene. But we had about 12 hours in airplanes and airports coming home. I also vaped in my no smoking rooms in the Hotel in Vancouver and the cruise ship. And in the airport bathroom.
I was soooooo happy that I was off the analogs. Our whole ship was no smoking! There were only two decks where you could go outside to smoke! I picked up some of Tropical Bob's Stonewall Javas that got me thru those long 5 course dinners on the cruise ship. And the rest of the time I discreetly used my ecig. Love It! :)

UPDATE:

Well, this update is pretty anti-climatic. No one stopped me, questioned me or even looked at me. By the time my bags got through security, I noticed the security was already worried about the people behind me. I even carried liquids on (in the baggie of course). No problems going in or out of Mexico.

We even vaped on the plane a bit. No big deal. We just exhaled towards our laps. YAY for e-cigs!

When I was vaping at my resort in Mexico, I was told by some of the staff that I couldn't smoke, and I showed them "mi cigarro electronico". A lot of the staff was familiar with them and didn't bother me anymore and appologized, and others had a plethora of questions and were mezmorized.

Anyway, thats the update. Safe travels and don't stress.

Today I saw two notices from vendors about U.S. Customs seizures -- in the first case, of 901 kits (this was posted on the vendor's web site); in the second, of 'smoke juice' (this appeared in a newsletter the vendor e-mailed to customers). I replied to the second vendor, asking "What is their problem?" They replied: it's pending the FDA decision.

Ok... I'm about to go overseas for a while. If Customs is seizing both hardware and consumables coming into the country, I have to wonder if, on my return, I'm going to find the batteries, atomizers, and liquid confiscated if they are discovered during a bag search. If they are and I'm asked what they are, I'm not going to lie about it (doing that when going through Customs is a decidedly bad idea).

Exactly how to pack all of this stuff is a bit of a mystery to me yet. For one thing, there are rules -- I'll have to review them -- concerning how many lithium-ion batteries can be carried outside the devices they are intended to power. Several years ago I travelled with a digital SLR that used lithium-ion camcorder batteries. I had about 8 of them with me -- no problem that time. I'll have a couple of much larger d-SLR batteries this time. But I'll also want to take lithium-ion batteries for the e-cig, plus a Kensington power pack (I'll probably skip taking a PCC). Some of those battery-related rules make sense; an accidental short of the battery contacts could possibly have a rather unpleasant effect during flight. (I wish e-cig battery suppliers would supply them with screw-on plastic caps that cover and protect the threads/contacts.)

Given the apparently more and more frequent Customs seizures, this situation is becoming (sad to say) ever more "interesting"...

Here is a quick way to protect the batteries, they fit snuggly (the caps also fit the 801 batteries):

PS:
In case you are wondering, I created that picture for another post a while back :)

What do they mean by "allowed"? Allowed to USE or allowed to CARRY ON?

They are NOT banned or illegal. TSA does not care about them. You'll have no problems with security.

Just make sure all wires are neatly wrapped so they do not create a problem going through the x-rays. A sloppy wire on a passthrough may look like a detonator on the x-ray, and they'll stop and check it out. Once they see what it actually is, you're on your merry way.

Customs is concerned with products imported for sale. You will have no problems passing customs with your personal supplies.
