All you regular pen style users out there, does yours work properly using carts? I've had a few and none wick fluid properly with carts. They have ranged from Kissboxes to the cheapest generics, all have the same problem. Now I still use them for dripping and they are great for that but I can fill a cart up and two draws later I'm tasting burning.
I know there are a couple of designs out there for cart mods which I'll try but I'm interested in whether any work well straight out of the box.

it depends on what u mean by "work" pete.. i have never found anything that uses bigger carts to work what i would call properly.. except perhaps the ruyan bling but i think thats a wimp right from the word go.. but it does make its way a thru cart in its wimpish kind of low key way..

kind of work but not as good as when dripped is the best i would say.. it depends what the user calls "work".. this user says they dont work.. other users say they do work.. he he

i have always had to drip mine..

OK my definition of work is to be able to drain a cart to something approaching the level of a 901 can be drained to. I'm talking about normal use here, I would expect to get about 3-4 analogue equivalents out of a 901. By the difference in size I would hope to get say 5-6 out of a penstyle. I haven't managed that with any of mine, I would say they vary between 0 and 4

my take is a simple one.. the bigger the cart the worse it works as regard liquid making the trip from cart wool to atomizer.. the smaller carts drain okay the bigger ones dont.. the downside being small carts cost as much as big carts...

the perfect conventional e cig.. a 901 atomizer married to a classic battery.. sadly it hasnt dawned on the chinese to make one..

All our penstyles from Simon (BadSeed's link) work well with carts, but one of the atomisers is too narrow for some of the carts (the Apple fit but the Regular don't--go figure...) and I had to trim back the fibres of some a little with my hair-cutting scissors.

Now they're all working fine and I regularly refill them with my own juice. So, it could be practice or it could be that some carts just are a bad fit.

so as i usual pete when u ask a direct question here u get totally conflicting information and end up no wiser than when u started.. he he he he

as is the case with most forums.. which is why i read them but never ask questions.. he he

asking direct questions in forums is one of the least productive means of research there is.. odd really aint it..

i've never had any probs with the pen , but im in the habit of toppin carts anyway.

If your gonna get the generic id go for the black mydnite from simon. don't ask me why but it easily out-performs the white one.

I used my heavily before i got the SD , and i'm still running the same atomizer after 6-7 weeks of heavy use. My white classics even with a new atomizer seem wimpy in comparison.

i could be wrong here but i think the main point of the original question was does the classic type work with simply popping a cart in and smoking it..

the need for constant topping up or dripping should count as no it dosnt.. he he he

a super mini for example does work with simply popping a cart in and smoking it.. so does a 901 in reasonable way..

lets not forget to a newbie these things are supposed to work with simply dropping a cart in and puffing away..

if i am wrong DC can point out what the rational behind his question is..

Ok the primary reason for this is that I have a friend that likes the Classic form factor. I'm trying to get a recommendation that works reasonably well, straight out of the box, so I don't have be be on support duty all the time. Topping up carts would be OK, but dripping is not acceptable, the person in question drives for a living...

I'm just trying to see if anyone has had good experiences as mine have varied between cr*p to OK. I have Smokesters black pen myself and this so far has been the best for me (and others by the sound of this thread)

You're right there. While the penstyles work with carts straight out of the box (provided they fit the atomiser) they don't drain nearly as well as either of my minis, so the minis are probably the better design if you don't want to keep topping up.

(I remember folks used to save up their old carts to squeeze out the remaining juice with a syringe, but now most appear to be topping up with their favourite flavours instead?)
