why is there not a "quit smoking" section on this website? I know it seems obvious but seriously, I could use some support. For me is hasn't been "oh I picked up my pv and never looked back". It's not always a nicotine issue. That is the easy part. For me there's a whole brain thing going on too. Ecigs don't equate to stinkies in a lot of catagories.

Maybe I'm just making this harder than it has to be. I just need to figure out how to live without the stinkies. Not sure how to do that. I know! sounds stupid but that's where I'm at.

Any insight would be so greatly appreciated.

Well, some of us never quit, or really intended to quit, we switched pretty much by accident.

Me? I vaped when I could and smoked when I had to and woke up one day and discovered I had forgotten to smoke the day before. (How could anyone even conceive that?)

Took some time, but there was never any stress or cravings or any of that stuff related to quitting. I just switched.

The key for me was finding a juice that satisfied. Of course the flavor that first did it for me was exactly the opposite of what I started out thinking would work.

Don't have any desire to smoke. Carried around that pack of cigs for months before I gave it away one day months after I had switched.

So, why do you have to be brave to vape?

I had a bit of a hard time giving them up also, with advice from this forum I upped the nic level ( used 24mg/ml)of my juice plus a few times of toughing it out and surprisingly one day i didn't smoke.WOW, with that day behind me every day after that was easier. Now I can't stand the smell of burning tobacco. At one time I was up to 3 PAD but for the last 10 years it was 1.5 PAD.
I smoked for 45 years and in retrospect it was much easier to quit than expected.

For me it was about flavor... I had to find something I really enjoyed. Some how after that it was rather easy to replace smoking with vaping. When I vaped a flavor I didnt care for, I felt the urge to smoke. For me thats what it really came down to.

I found a good flavor that didnt trigger a smoking urge. With some will power and positive thinking 3 days passed before I knew it.

I started out with 24mg nicotine level and stuck with that as it gave me the throat sensation I craved.

Activities and not thinking about smoking were a big help. Going places where no smoking was allowed. Avoiding mints and gum also helped because of the mental association of "Im chewing this to prolong smoking... Afterwards I can/will..."

I slowed down on coffee as I always drank and smoked in tandem. After almost a week I was able to resume my normal coffee habits.

You might also try the cutting down smoking and vaping to fend off urges in between. Then gradually transition. I myself have been a good candidate for weaning or cutting down. One bad day and I would always end up smoking the usual amount. Everyone is different in this regard. Cutting back works for some and not others.

You obviously have the desire or you wouldnt be here asking questions. Build on that desire and dont give up. You'll get there in your own time on your terms. You'll be so happy when you do!

When I smoked I never gave a thought to whether I was doing it right, smoking too much, smoking not enough, smoking too often....

I think maybe that can be what makes it difficult for people who start vaping.
Worrying about vaping the right mg, too often, not often enough. Then 'Oh no, Fail, I had a cigarette.....

If you start vaping and cut your cigarette consumption down at all that is success. If you have a cigarette it is not a fail.

Like Hoosier said chances are one of these days you will probably just forget to smoke, I know I did.... I thought I would give vaping a try, finished off the cigarettes I had and didn't buy any more, not necessarily by design. Like RichardV I smoked for 45 years and now I have been quit for 17 months.

Upping the nic if you are craving cigarettes is a good idea. I didn't worry about getting too much nic while vaping because if I did I got the same headachy feeling I got when I smoked too many cigarettes..

Good luck......

It's different for everybody but there is one common thread for everyone who has succeeded in giving up cigarettes...a true desire to quit. Without that you aren't going to give up the stinkies as you put it. For me it was seeing my brother who is just a uear older than me have a stroke last year and 5 bypasses after a heart attack this year. Was enough to give me that desire.

You will be able to quit when you really want to...

My own recent experience with quitting analogs and vaping exclusively followed what I think is a prett common path: 8 cigs for a few days in a row, then 6 for a few days, etc. I have to admit that the 2 and 1 days stretched into another whole week but I got there eventually.

Don't stress:unsure:, that isn't going to help the nic fits at all. :D

I agree with the above comments on getting a high enough nic level in your e-juice. For me, quitting smoking required getting that hit to my throat and chest that smoking gave me. When I use lower nic levels, I don't get that hit. I need 18mg - 24mg in most juices to get it.

I was in a local vape shop on Saturday trying out juices with an atomizer. I tried a lot of different ones in about 45 minutes. When I left, I didn't feel very good and realized that I had vaped way too much nicotine. I didn't vape for over 3 hours after that - just had no desire for it. That showed me that the nic level is important. Get plenty of nicotine starting off. You can always step yourself down.

10:00 this morning was 1 month since my last analog. You can quit. You just have to find what works FOR YOU. What worked for me or anyone else may not be right for you. But I'm pulling for you.

Vapira, Just wanting to vape is its own special win. The ones you do suppliment with vaping are each their own win. How many have you not smoked? All wins. Eventually after some time, patience, practice and searching you will find the one that does do "it" for you. You just have to have the patience to keep at it. You didnt pick your favorite analog with the second smoke you ever had? You werent a natural at smoking, why should this be so much easier?

I started vaping because at 2.5 packs per day was really causing me grief both financially and physically. I decided to give this a "try" I had tried just about everything else that I could and they all fell flat at some point. At that time I was using a smokeshop automatic with a single battery an atomizer and a cart that held exactly seven drops of liquid(which I didnt even know existed until month four or five). I had no idea that the ECF even existed. It was awful truthfully. In my luck I was looking fo a viable alternative to the device I was using. I stumbled into and out of the ECF for another month, not paying enough attention where the links from google where actually taking me. One day I found the ECF supplier page, my eyes opened as if I had an epiphany..... Theres a whole lot more to this than I ever knew existed.....

After sticking around here for over a year and some months I can say this. This place helps me daily. My wife tells me I spend too much time here. I have no desire to have an analog. I didnt walk to school uphill both ways with no shoes in the snow. Keep at it you will get where you want to be. Congratulations on all your wins. We all have had our share of rough times. We are all better for having wanted to be better. Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

I never had the desire to quit smoking. but my bank acct kept telling me i could not afford cigs anymore. so I thought I would try vaping to cut back on cigs. I couldn't afford the 2 1/2 pad I was smoking, but I could afford 1 pad. so, if I wanted a cig, I vaped for a while and then if I still wanted the cig I had it, guilt free. slowly, over a month or so I went from 2 1/2 pad to 2 cigs a day (!) I was so surprised. and in fact, I still, a year later, smoke those 2 cigs a day, at night right before bed, my little treat to myself. as long as I hold it to 2 a day I don't feel guilty and will let myself have them. I think the key for me was to not stress out about quitting. I started with 18 mg nic and went down to 6-8 mg fairly quickly. I still use the joye 510 and ego I started with. my suggestion, don't stress or get in a hurry about it! and good luck

oh and I smoked for 35 years

To all who have replied............Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love and appreciate the honesty and direction. It helps..................a lot!

You all are my heroes. :) Tomorrow is a new day. Gonna smoke if I smoke, guilt free. Not gonna stress about it. I will vape til my face falls off if I must. Got some WTA in the mail today. Maybe that'll be the thing.

again, thank you.

Every time I NEED a cig... I vape for 15-20 minutes. Then if I still NEED the cig, I smoke one. My last time between cigs was about 2 weeks and the cig was gross and unsatisfying. The first few weeks vaping though, I was probably smoking 4-5 a day. Don't feel guilty. ANY cig that you're avoiding is a victory. Stressing won't help. Just don't smoke one and decide to quit vaping. It takes time to give up any habit and completely replace it for most people. Give it as much time as it takes. Focus on increasing your enjoyment of vaping, not quitting.

Two takeaways (aside from keeping up on ECF).

1) Make sure you vape enough nicotine.

2) Keep looking till you find the right combo of flavor(s) and devices. (Use the recommendations and feedback on ECF.)

I was lucky. No intention of quitting my 2-2.5 100mm full-flavor PAD habit. Total stranger intro'd me to e-cigs (V4L), told me he'd tried several other brands but V4Ls were the best (at the time). Saved me lots of hassle. I ordered the kit. Steve called me the next day (one of the company's owners) to ask about my smoking habits--then told me he was sending me 36 mg juice. That phone call impressed me. (They've grown so much I doubt he does that any more.)

Glad he sent me the 36mg. First day, I vaped so much I felt guilty--for about sixty seconds. I heard myself say, "Are you kidding? After two packs a day? Vape ALL you like!" Never looked back.

I've been off analogs going on three years. Had one brief relapse (after two years of vaping!)--just "wanted" a cigarette. Stupid. I really dislike smoking, and love vaping. Never again, with the analogs.

I've settled on five juices I love, the Provari V2 and, in order: tanks, Stardusts, cartos. I still have kGos, and those were great too, at the time. Still occasionally carry them out instead of the Provari, but seldom. Still like to vape at 24-36mg. Anything less doesn't do it for me.

I've never felt like I quit smoking: just "changed brands." Same great satisfaction for 1/10th the cost. Plus I actually ENJOY all the elements of vaping, unlike smoking.

Good luck!

It's harder than that! Even though I quit all at once, it was such a struggle; I'm surprised I didn't have hallucinations or anything. It is still a struggle as I occasionally have really strong cravings and I am afraid I'll give into them. Lots of us here feel your pain; go easy on yourself and make your goal to enjoy vaping and cut down on the cigs. It'll happen eventually.

I just got my kgo last night, used an 808 all weekend. I smoked, but I think only three yesterday, and non so far today. Everyone talking about the right blend is correct. I switched cartos a few minutes ago to a different flavor and it was way better for me.

All in all, since Thursday I am probably down three packs total from where I would have been. I'm amazed. I'm just letting it happen naturally in the beginning.
