Rocki and Tyson; Rocki- my baby, who is near the end of her time with us. :(; Thumper, my grandpuppy to whom my dad belongs; and Tyson, the 85 pound lap dog. Got one more, I think I have a pic on facebook. BRB.

My other grandpuppy Katie, taking a lesson from her brother Tyson and trying to be a lap dog (she is not allowed lol)

Well, I have a better pic of Katie, but it won't let me upload it. I tried repeatedly making it smaller, but it still refuses to upload. Guess that will have to do.

...

Love that lap-dog thing with big dogs... LOL

I had a Newfy a while back, and she was so cute as a pup, I kept putting her in my lap. Well, when she grew up to well over 100 lbs, she still tried her best to stuff whatever part of her would fit into my lap. I didn't have the heart to shoo her off, and quite often, especially in the back seat of the car, I got totally lost behind a huge pile of black fur. :D

Yep, love the big ole lap dogs. Tyson also hogs pillows. He almost always sleeps above one of us on our pillows.

I'm a sleep tech- I watch people sleep for a living. (Tough job but someone has to do it. ;) ) One day I was dreaming that one of my patients was snoring and I was trying to figure out which one it was cause they both told me they didn't snore. I woke up from the dream and Tyson was above my head with his head curled around, right beside my ear... you guessed it... snoring.

Another time I woke up mid afternoon to a torrential downpour, loud lightning, and Tyson with his head right on top of my, trembling uncontrollably. That makes it difficult to sleep. Neither of them like storms, but he gets crazy scared.

Oh, and I didn't clarify the grandpuppy thing- Rocki is the mom of all three of the others. Tyson is ours, Thumper is my dads, and Katie my brothers.

Honolulu, Hi
I'm enjoying this thread so much! I love both dogs and cats. When I was living with my ex-gf (still friends now) I had the liberty of taking care of 4 dogs in which 3 of them i helped raise.

These are the two older dogs. The biggest one is named Allie (boxer, german shepard, terrier) and the other is named Sophie (basenji)

Better and cuter shot of Allie :3

This is the 2nd youngest and my little baby :D Lilie (chihuahua, terrier) who we adopted from the Humane society. She is perfect in every way no matter her flaws :)

The youngest is named Lin. I haven't spent much time with her as me and my ex broke up before she came in but what a crazy one she is! I call her the "homing missile" as she darts around and can jump around at lightning speed into people's faces to kiss them haha!

no pics sadly :(

Brair, I could not agree more, that was very well put. I am so sorry that you lost your precious Masha she looks so cute in the pic's and so does Myst. I have 3 Italian Greyhounds, and 3 cat's. We have always been animal lover's and have taken in a couple of stray cat's when we already had 3. We ended up with 6 cats total and we had them all spayed and nutered with all there shots thru out the years. All are pets were and are very well taken care of, are cat's were all getting way up in age and we had the worst winter, we lost 3 of are cats. All from old age, and bad kidney's, one had cancer, and one that was not that old we found dead on the floor one morning. The vet said he most likely died of heart failure, which seems to happen to alot of male cat's. The other 2, I took care of and would not leave them alone when the time came that they did not have much longer to live I stayed in a room with them 24/7 comforting and taking care of them untill they passed. It is such a heartbreaking thing to lose a pet weather cat, dog or any other animal. There is know love like the love are pets give to us, and I do agree that it is just as hard to lose a pet as it is to lose a loved one ( humans ). Love is love and when it is given so unconditionally it does not matter where it is coming from or I should say what it is coming from it is precious either way. And I believe in heaven, but if I pass and make it there I expect them to be there waiting for me, just as Masha will be waiting for you and myst :).

QUOTE=Briar;6264679]Couldn't agree more with that sentiment. :)

Masha the Cat passed away from cancer - she was a very special friend to both Myst the Dog, and, of course, me, the humble human. Myst is still with me, thank God, and she truly is as close to me as any being could be - we've been through a lot together. Those of us who love beings of other species often think how unfair it is that they don't live as long as we do. But painful as it is when they leave us, it's still worth it to know such innocent closeness. If there is Heaven - and I hope there is - I do believe that all my dogs and cats will greet me there when the time comes, and it makes me happy, as it makes me grateful now to have had their company here. :)[/QUOTE]

It must have been so very hard losing three of them so close to each other... {{{hugs}}}

It's so good of you to take them in like that. Masha was adopted from a shelter. It was kinda of a stange-ish story: my house was overrun with mice, and I was at my wits end. I couldn't bring myself to set out lethal traps, live traps didn't work well at all, and poison - forget it. No way. All those ultrasound doohickeys did nothing but irritate *me*. LOL And Myst the dog just watched them with mild interest.

So out of sheer desperation I went and adopted Masha. I was really scared that Myst would object. Didn't happen, thanks to Masha's attitude. The first thing she did was go to Myst's food dish and start eating. Myst was so flabbergasted by such audacity, that she just kind of sat nearby with bewildered expression and watched. When Myst tried to raise a very mild objection to the proceedings, Masha turned to her, sat, neatly wrapping her fluffy tail around herself, and raised a paw. Just that paw, and "the look", was enough to tame the beast. Myst never objected to anything Masha did ever again. They played together, groomed each other, hunted mice together, and protected each other from my Mom's two "evil" Siberian cats, who ganged up and tried to take over. LOL

An animal community is absolutely fascinating to observe - their relationships are so interesting, especially when different species have to develop a common language, like sounds and facial and body expressions. It was hysterical watching Myst trying to speak "cattese", while Masha was trying to speak "doggese"... :D

OK, I have to share this somewhere and since this is already an OT post, this seems like a good place. Conversation with patient at the door:

Tidegirl: [finds patient standing at the door] I'm sorry, I didn't hear you knock.

Patient: I rang the doorbell.

Tidegirl: Oh, the doorbell doesn't work.

Patient: You need a sign that says the doorbell doesn't work.

Tidegirl: [points to 8.5 x 11 sign, in color, with picture, says patients please knock for assistance] We have that one.

Patient: But there is a doorbell underneath so I rang it. It should say the doorbell doesn't work.

Tidegirl:

Why would we have a sign that says KNOCK if the doorbell worked???

Great pictures and stories people!

A little FYI for those dog owners who maybe do't know this, GO TO DAIRY QUEEN! Seriously! Take your dog, hop in your car and go to DQ. Ask for a "pup cup" and they'll give you a small (dixie cup size) cup of soft serve vanilla ice cream free of charge for your pooch! I don't know if there's a limit since the most I've ever asked for was 2, but it's an awesome thing!

For those with big dogs (especially with big tongues), it's hilarious watching them eat soft serve ice cream out of a small cup! Word of caution, it's best to not do this while simultaneously trying to drive! When the weather is nice we take our dogs to the dog park and there's now an expectation that every time on the way home we'll swing by DQ for ice cream.

Oh, that's funny... I'm a pretty visual person, and I'm seeing that big spotted tongue working on a small ice cream. :D

Too bad I don't have DQ around here, I'd take Myst and go in a second flat. She is *such* a food hound. The only dog I know who almost ate herself to death. My Mom, while dog-sitting, forgot to lock away the food bag once, and Myst helped herself. By the time I got home, my Mom was hysterical, and my dog, who was only 1 yo at the time, and, like all German Shephers, pretty two-dimensional at that age (picture a cardboard cutout with two *very* large ears), was lying on the floor, moaning, and nursing a stomach the size of a basketball. I thought we were going to have to go to the emergency room with the silly glutton... Didn't have to, fortunately.

And she *loves* ice cream.

I take her to the Wendy's drive-through right at the closing times though, and they usually smuggle her a couple of plain cheeseburgers and their version of a small vanilla shake. Which sends Myst right into heavenly orbit... LOL I put the shake in a bowl though - that long GSD nose tends to get stuck in the cup. The drive-through folks are suckers for a cute begging golden eyes and the ears - can't forget the ears, they really speak volumes... :D

Oh, I did not know that about DQ! Will have to take the kids there my first day off.

Briar, I so know what you mean. My two will eat anything that don't eat them first. Especially Tyson- it's amazing that he is still alive. Once I had girl scout cookies on the top shelf of the top cabinet in the kitchen. He somehow managed to get onto the skinny countertop, open the cabinet that had no handles, get the cookies off the top shelf, and eat the whole box. Chocolate too. Of course I called the vet right away. He told me to watch him and give him pepto. Oh boy, was it a mess. Nothing but puke and poop for 3 days. Rocki once ate 2 whole large raw chicken breasts that were thawing on the cutting board on the kitchen counter while I was in the next room.
