Found a story with some more information.

Jennifer Ries of Corona was on her way to the airport in March 2013 when she plugged in her VapCigs e-cigarette charger and it spewed hot metal that ignited her dress, attorney Gregory Bentley said.

Hot metal?

Of course it had to be a smoke shop and not a vape shop. Now maybe these shops will start looking at the crap clones they sell. Still, permanently scarred by 2nd degree burns?!? Come on that's bs as you barely get any blistering if at all until 3rd degree. Cali stupidity at its best.

This is another case of children being used to get money.
The couple missed their flight to Brazil, where they had planned to help build a community center for children in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, and Jennifer Ries ended up at an urgent care facility and a burn clinic the following day.
This is why the bleeding heart jury awarded almost 2 million dollars

The article didn't say the e-cig exploded. They said "she plugged in her VapCigs e-cigarette charger and it spewed hot metal". They should get their facts straight. Did an e-cig explode or did a charger go boom.......

I just see another frivolous lawsuit in a loooooooong line of frivolous lawsuits. Sadly, I think we are in for so much more of this. Has there ever been a case of someone being awarded millions of dollars for any other battery explosion? :(

oh, and 36,486

I haven't searched hard for a follow up to this story http://www.cnet.com/news/apple-sued-over-exploding-ipod-touch/
If I had to guess, I'd say Apple probably settled out of court with an NDA attached.
