FDA Petition on whitehouse.gov

After noticing some particularly boneheaded things on the FDA's website about vaping, I decided to create a petition to the government to reexamine its policies and classification of these products. Please help me by reading and signing the petition here:

I get why you wanted to do this, but, you should know the big vaper advocacy groups such as AVA, SFATA and CASAA are recommending against petitions at this point, both creating and signing them.

Agreed, petitions at this point are not going to do a thing.

If you don't mind explaining, why are they recommending against petitions? Or if you could link to a webpage or something where one of those organisations explain, that would be good too. Thanks!

The deeming regs are a done deal. Only hope we have is with congress (Cole/ Bishop Amendment) and/or lawyers and lobbing.

A couple examples why -

For one thing, there are several and complex issues to take up - if someone at the white house is going to look at it, it should be a carefully organized, irrefutable argument proving the deeming regs cannot stand.

For another thing - we can't afford to "water down" or "spread thin" our response.
If there are 20 different petitions, that's bad. Because they'll look at the weakest one and say, "look - there's only 3000 people who don't like this".

And a third reason I've heard - people will think they've "done something" by signing a petition...then NOT do something else that's really important (like call their senator every couple days asking them to support the Cole-Bishop amendment or HR2058...).
