I just received a bootle of PG I bought from Qualichem. When I bought it there was a description stating uses and electronic cigarettes was actually listed. Said it was 99.9%, so I bought.
Now the label on the bottle they sent me includes the following sentence:
"This is a technical grade and must not be used as a direct food additive"
Grrrrrrrrr.....so I'm thinking not a good idea to use. Go back to their website and the page is gone, they've actually separated the PG now into technical grade and USP food grade and raised the prices.

Am I wrong to think they should replace it with USP (at least at the same price I paid), which I thought I was ordering. I really don't want to bother shipping this crap back, it's frickin heavy.
Or do I just say screw it and buy it from somewhere else?
*end rant*

Vape, read Loogie's post on this thread - post 10.

He had the same thing happen to him, same place as you. We advised him against using it. Then, on second page of thread, he reported this:

"I notified the seller and explained that his ad said food grade, yet what I received was Technical grade and had a plethora of warnings. he told me to flush it down the toilet and that he would send me the correct bottle on Monday. good fella so far."

Hope you can get yours replaced too.

That's a valid rant Vape. They goofed. I'd e-mail them exactly what happened and ask them how they want to make the situation right. Maybe the order puller just grabbed the wrong bottle off the shelf. I don't know what you paid for the PG & s/h, but you'll have to decide if its worth returning after you get their response (if they even want it back).

I have to say that I am not 100%, but I'm as close as I can be. Others have said it's ok to use. (The USP part makes all the difference I think.) I had mentioned in another thread and asked the same question and the reply was yes, it's ok, but that is 2nd hand info, anyone else want to verify? This is the product in question: Tractor Supply Company - Dionne Keotosis Treatment Gallon Cattle Medicine

From what I gather, you can mix the PG 50/50 with VG. I think this is to thin out the VG as it's very thick, and most likely won't wick. I just got the VG because the base in my e-liquid is PG. Just having the VG, I intend to mix it 50/50 with distilled water, then use that to cut my 36mg liquid down to about 6mg with some Loranns. Wish me luck :)

Yes, I contacted him and he is sending one out to be for free. He was very nice and quick to answer my e-mail. I guess he has had to deal with this more than a few times. He keeps on getting more detailed in his product descriptions and bumping the price (to offset sending free bottles of USP to replace tech. grade I assume) poor guy. Now that he is dealing with folks from the vaping community.......we can be pretty damn picky, but for good reason!

Side note: I have bought from JuicyLiquid and their stuff is great. I got 30ml of 36mg VG and 60ml of PG. The mix of the VG and PG makes great vapor. I just wanted to have a large bottle of PG to have handy.

Thanks all!!

I would not mix the VG 50/50 with water. Doing that would make your final 6mg mix appx 41% water! It will likely sizzle like crazy and not produce much vapor.

I usually mix 10% water to VG *before* mixing with PG/VG 36mg. Although since you will be cutting a lot (25ml VG/Water mix + 5ml 36mg = 30ml 6mg) you might want to bump up the water to 15% before mixing.

Thanks, Jaaxx! So if what I made already starts to sizzle, I know to add vg, correct? (And maybe a couple drops juice to bring back to 6mg approx.) And I do want to make a larger quantity, but I want to get some practice and a decent flavor 1st.

Some "sizzle" may be a characteristic of your atomizer, but if you're getting the sizzle with almost no vapor then you can be sure you have too much water. Best way to get viscosity right is to mix the VG + water first to a slightly thicker consistency than the VG 36mg. Slightly thicker to allow for the flavoring you'll add later. But to answer your question, yes just add a little VG if you have too much water.

Jaxx,

Exactly what difference would substituting the distilled water with ethanol make?

Thanks

Ethanol allows you to thin the VG/PG with a little lower overall percentage vs water. It vaporizes at a lower temperature and can contribute a little astringency (throat hit.) Same issues with water (decreased vapor) at high concentrations. Best to use ethanol as an adjunct to distilled water. Commercial liquids seem to use a 2:1 ratio of water to ethanol.

As an example, I find that 10% D-Water + 5% Ethanol with VG USP makes a good vapable base. However the same ratio does not work as well with PG (it's thinner.) With PG I like the simple addition of 5% ethanol.
