Question for the technoobs and techsavvies: Is it good to have back-up batt chargers ?
I know how important it is to have power...
What is a great charger to have for 18650 batts?
I have the Trustfire multi-functional charger that seems to do a good job with the 18650's and 14500's.. but the 18650's just fit and sometimes the light wavers green and need to swivel the batts around to get the red on.

You should have spare everything, and it's not a bad idea to rotate ... Tips fall out, attys burn out, batteries have limited life expectancies, chargers can malfuction, and you accitdentally can drop your phidias from a ski lift or into a volcano....

With that Trustfire charger, you might want to dab a small amount of noalox on the contacts- mine was doing the same thing with 17670's..

Hi stashbldr,

I received your Phidias this morning...

I have good news, and bad news.

First the good news, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your Phidias, I'm vaping my old friend in between these henpecks that I call typing...

Puff, clouds...Puff clouds...

The bad news, it must be your gear---I'm thinking you fried that atty doing dry burns???

But I really do not know?

I can mail it back today? or should I hold it? till you get back from your trip.

Let me know
fono

Meanwhile, Puff, O' my dear old friend is here for a visit--clouds I tell you...clouds of vapor

nice to have you back, old friend, if only for a while...

I wasnt using an adaptor, it was a 510 atomizer screwed directly into the Phidias. My spring didnt collapse, I put several other batteries in and out of it, thinking maybe my battery was dead, the spring was intact, just like it always had been. Because of the dry burn I was doing I think I melted something, I do tend to get a little carried away when I do a dry burn and the atty was hot-hot-hot. If the atty was so hot then maybe that caused the wire inside to come lose, it's almost as if the black solder stuff melted that the wire was attached to.

You dont see the lose wire inside .. about 1/2" below the atty connector? Or is that the way it's suppose to be? I tried my usual atty on it too, so 2 atty's .. both of those atty's worked on my Joye 510 but not on the Phidias. Maybe it was Phidias gremlins at work? Or maybe I need to jump into the volcano (do I have to be a virgin for that to work though)? If your mail hasnt gone out for today then sure, send it back .. but if you cant mail it today then keep it for a few days because I'll be out of town after this Wednesday night for 8 days.

What the heck .. it was broken .. and now it's not? puzzling and w-e-i-r-d.

Ok well I guess it's time for me to comment as I have been enjoying my phidius for a month now:) When I first got it, I was getting a burnt taste from the atty and was very perplexed? But I forged ahead and vaped/burned through the nasty burnt-ness, and low and behold it went away? Came to find out that in Fono's commitment to using nothing but 100% copper wire, it burns a little hotter than most mods, So there is a break in period to burn off some excess wicking in the atty. But after that...WOW!! This thing is awesome!!! I have 3 other devices, but this is the one I use. I even dropped it on a hard tile floor, and cracked the wood on the inside of the back cover next to the button hole, but after reaching out to Fo for help,(Which he was all too happy to do)a little elmers glue fixed it right up:) It has been a month and I am still using the same LR atty that came with it, and still have the spare ready to go. The only thing I had an issue with was, I overdripped fluid and it leaked into the juice feeder button hole, and made it stick. So I took the button out, and rolled up a piece of very fine sand paper in the hole, and using my pinky, I sanded back and fourth in a circular motion and put the button back in, being careful to get the beveled part to match up with the cover the right way, and presto! Like new again. I love this mod and can't say enough about it, or MR.Fono. Thanks Fo for making the best mod on the market...period!

LoL.. hha sorry stashbldr; but this makes my stressmonday a bit cheerier... sorry ... ;)
I only laugh because i did send a much waited for mod back once and i thought it was doa; but it was that i had the batt upsided down or something...nothing wrong. In your case I hope you and Fono pinpoint the problem and get it back to you. You know these things are great and the best are only subject to human failings... sometimes...

Brat ... what a brat .. blowing clouds of vapor at me while I have to sit here vaping on crummy equipment.

I just do not know what to say...

It's working perfectly, I took my Glass and micro checked for loose wires---the black wire loops into the button...but that's the way I do it...

Group shot, hanging with my other buddy...

I did just notice something that is new to me, well actually not new; as one "other" reason i did something like stashblder; send it back.. was that the atty was on a little too tight.... it didnt fire unless the atty was on just enough but not tightly...
same thing happening with my Phidius now... seemed dead, newly charged batt, no fire... then i backed off the turn on the atty a touch.. and back in business... yup.

Next time it dies, send it back to Fono and he can take pics and have a Phidias party with it, as he blows "clouds of vapor" at his monitor.

Just so you "big boys" will know .. I did change to a different atty .. Phidias would not fire. Changed batteries, nothing .. dead dead. Put the atty onto a Joye 510 battery .. worked great. Put it back on the Phidias, changed to a 3rd battery ... dead Phidias. Put it in the mail to Daddy. Daddy gets it and probably does Vegas-Voodoo on it .. and voila, it's perfect.

Speaking of crapped out attys, I think I found the problem with my juice puddling near the connector ....

Just got a shipment of new attys in and thought I'd test one out...
3 hrs of chain vaping and not only am I buzzing, but haven't had to wipe any puddling since -

Believe it or not, This is the first time in almost 2 months that I put a fresh new atty on the phid.... -

I now suspect the problem might have been juice leaking between the sleeve and the atty connector- there's a taped seal there and it seems to deteriorate over time resulting in a loose atty. It would seem to be more of an issue given the bottom feed than you would see if you were dripping from the top....

We'll see over the next day or two but it's looking pretty good right now....

BTW: the new atty is a DSE (SLB)- cost less than $2... FWIW- that's disposable....not worth loosing any sleep if it lasts a day....
I ordered a bunch of samples and may be doing a co-op in a week or two if they work out....
