Having the same problem on one of my Sabers
I think i'm going to have to search for a THIN washer that the same size as the screw head. Thats the only solution I see in sight
I had the same issue w my DID, and I dropped the center post so I could access the lower portion. Then I used 1 wrap of silver wire around the post just above the head. This will keep the post from going all the way back up. I have not examined my Cobra for this purpose, but if it's a flathead screw it would seem to me it's that way for a reason.
It really wasn't thin enough. Thats why I squished it in there. ( I think it helps bind it up) There may be a smaller one available but it was what I had and it works. The one I used is about 1/4" across but should be much smaller to fit in there correctly.
Without a washer, I don't see how mechanically it could. I mean, you can back it off, but as you tighten the top section, it'll just draw it back up. So you are definitely on the right track. Putting a washer in there will only allow it to backup so much.
My cobra finally made it through customs, should be here tomorrow or tuesday. Cant wait!

This is why I found the tinny O-ring works. The center post screw is still insulated (which it needs to be) and the rubber O-ring wedges inside the cavity where the screw head/post head goes into. This makes it possible to tighten up the screw to hold your wire. You are not going to be able to just keep cranking on that little nut to tighten it up because then it will just keep pulling the screw up but it can be tightened plenty to hold the wire in place.
The dual-wick novelty has worn off for me, I think. Tore it down and did a 4/3 coil with just one of the wicks (re-used one of the prior ones) and performance is definitely better this way. Maybe I'll revisit the dual setup one of these days, but for now I'm gonna stick with the single wick
Another option to try is dual wicks on the same side. They can go close together with 1 wire for both coils. Just run the wire along the plate to the wick that is a bit farther away from the neg screw. This is my plan for the next time I have to rebuild.
