Howdy Folks,

Ive got a specific question. I am using a Phoenix RBA with 32 gauge Kanthal and Cotton yarn. Specifically when I use Alice in Vapeland's Zombie Apocalypes, the cotton yarn gets gunked up really quickly and the juice loses its flavor. Im talking after one or two days, so I dont even get a chance to season my coil when I stop enjoying my vape. I dont find this with the clear juices like Quiet Morning so Im assuming its the sugar in the juice or whatever sweetener it is. In any case, anyone having the same issue?

I prefer cotton to silica. I am looking to get some cheese cloth to see if that helps, but thought I would ping the forum to see if anyone had thoughts on this issue. Im guessing its not just a Zombie apocalypse thing, but rather a sweet/dark juice thing..

Anyway. Thanks for your thoughts.

Cheers,
Mike

I diy all my juices, so I can't speak for those specific ones as I've never tried them. But I can say that if I'm using darker juices my coils do get gunked up faster then the clearer ones. I use only cheesecloth for wicks, cause it's cheap and easy to get, plus I had a bunch already when I started rebuilding and still havent come close to running out yet. I wouldn't think cotton vs silica would make a difference how fast the wicks need changing, or that cheesecloth stay better longer. I do think the cheesecloth (boiled first of course) has a much cleaner taste than some other cotton wick materials I've tried. But still I'm changing my wicks out about once a week. I can untwist the coils and they last about 3 weeks to a month, if they're not too brittle and snap on a rebuild.

I vape tons of Boba's in a Phoenix and it gunks up quickly for the same reasons. I use silica wick 3-3.5mm and do a dry burn when needed. The gunk burns off and the silica turns white again inside the coil. It actually vapes better after a dry burn than doing a new setup. I torch the wire and the wick before making a new setup, no funky metallic taste and its practically broken in from the start. If you are worried about the silica, I get mine from Clouds of Vapor, it comes from Imeo who has it made to his specs and its been certified. I'm not sure what certifying actually entails, but you can look into and at least know exactly what you'd be getting.

I am a total born again cotton only guy as of late. I was burnin' silica one day and looked closely at my wick after a while. When I physically inspected the wick with my fingers pieces of fibers came off in my fingers. I was about to toss away all my silica until I decided I could sew with it.

Never, ever will I use silica for vaping again.I won't have glass in my throat or lungs. No way. Cotton, bamboo ceramic or even mesh. Never silica.
