I'm surprised your flavor diminished that bad after a cleaning. These things just keep trucking for me. How long did you let it dry? I've found that not waiting enough makes it either muted or even a little "soggy" like (the second could be in my head). Even then though, it gets tasty again after awhile. Best thing however is wait longer. You don't even need to dry burn, unless the juice is particularly thick.

I just dry burned it and rinsed it off again then let it dry out over night. I have sence then turned them into dripping attys wich works surprisingly well.
