Does anyone know where I can find clear up close pictures of eGo t wick and hat. I've seen a few photos that were posted on the web and on this forum, but I am having trouble finding some closeup. I would like to see a pic of the hat and what it looks like. I don't think my atty's have hats. But not 100% sure.

The Mcguyver finally came out in me and I had to see what was going on inside my atty. Off to surgery. I used needle nose pliers. Took a couple tries, but once I rocked the needle plate to one side, I just rocked it to the other side and it was loose. I turned the atty upside down and out came the needle plate. But where's the wick?????? The wick was still inside the atty. I held my breath, because it's hard to see in these things, and pulled it out. Here are some pics of the wick and one of the inside of the atty showing the coil. Not sure at this point what I'm gonna do with it before I stick it back, but it looks like the "hat" is not on top of the wick, like I had thought. It is wrapped around the wick and very tightly. At least that's what I'm seeing from the pics. What do you guys think I should do with it. I've heard these things are very very delicate. thanks

P.S. Oh, the problem I'm having is diminishing vapor. I have to do dry pulls to reprime very often.

Carefully pick up the wick with your pliers by the little bit that shows above the steel mesh. Take a butane lighter and light the wick. It will burn for a few seconds, put the flame under it again for a few seconds. The wick will then look white, like new. Carefully put the wick back into the needle. I use a tooth pick. And yes, they are delicate, be patient.

I have successfully disassembled and reassembled two units. One of them I trimmed just a little bit off the mesh. It looked like it overlapped too much and was resticting the flow of juice because it was contricting the wick. I probably won't do this again unless absolutely necessary. The second one I cleaned the wick and reassembled but stuck a needle in the little channels inside the piercing tube after I stuck the wick back. I'm testing them out now and will report back. No leaking yet. I had previously pushed my wicks so far down that they were on the edge of falling out.

P.S. The wicks really didn't need to be cleaned with the flame. They look really bad in the pics but once i cleaned them off with juice and a rag, they were only tan colored on the bottom.

Please do post back results on adding needle

Oh, I used a small needle to make three small holes lining up with the little channels (there are three) that are on the inside of the piercing tube. If the atty was standing up and assembled, I could have done this by pushing a needle straight down, making the holes lined up with the channels in the piercing tube. I removed the needle once the holes were make. I just used it to make the holes. Check out the pic. I've included a picture of the wick with the mesh unfolded also.

I've realized that you don't want the wick pushed down much lower than the bottom of the slant in the piercing tube. I had pushed mine about 1 or 2 mm lower than the bottom of the slant and the hat was barely in the bottom of the tube. One of wicks stayed down in the bottom of the atty. I can see why people have theirs fall out because they keep pushing it down without success.

The outcome. The good part is no leaks so far and I have successfully done this on two atty's. They seem to be performing better, but they don't seem to be running 100%. So, I have made a hole down the center of the wick with a pin as recommended by another member who has a lot of experience with these and will see how it works. I'll post back later of my finding.

These are the results after a while of vaping. It seems i might have gotten the best results from pushing a needle down the center of the wick and pushing it side to side. I believe this to have loosened up the wick in the center and has helped with the flow of juice. It appears the hat has very tight on the wick and was constricting it, preventing sufficient juice flow. The wick is level with the bottom of the slant in the piercing tube. This seems to be the best position for it from my experience. I haven't gotten any leaks yet and it seems to be working better.

how fine a needle did you use? I'd like to try a technique that doesn't require complete disassemble re-assembly as i'm pretty sure i will wreck the wick.

But despite my lack of confidence, as soon as i get some more back-up attys in here i am going to at least give it a try. i have tons of old 306 and 510 atomizers still lingering around as back-ups to the back up (the all vape lousy or may be dead but i figure at some future date will be useful spare parts depot.) did folks suggest one could use a piece from those for these little wick caps, mesh things?
