haha I know you all will be. I've been lurking around this forum for a week now and you all really seem like stellar people!

I remember hearing about e-cigs awhile back, but didn't think much of it. Recently though my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer (at age 25) and my mom had it too, so for my health I really wanted to quit smoking. You know... smoking increases your chance of getting breast cancer (or so they say). I had the doctor put me on wellbutrin to help and its working to an extent. Cigarettes don't taste near as good anymore and I pick up on the awful smell more than I used to. I still crave them though. Also the problem is that I really don't want to quit smoking... I just want a better version of it minus all of the cons. vaping seems to be like a miracle to me! I can still be social with all of my friends (who smoke... so much easier to make friends with smokers when you are one) without feeling left out. I realize that even if I do quit smoking the second I go to a bar with some friends I am not going to have a good time, cuz all I will be thinking about is how I should be having a cigarette with this beer.

Is it really that awful to be addicted to nicotine?? I kinda compare it to caffeine anywayz. Having coffee every morning is a completely acceptable past time in modern society. Why not vaping?

vaping takes away 99% of the things I hate about smoking. I'm just leaving 1% just in case :p

So do I sound like the perfect type of person for vaping?

I ordered my first VP. I went with the Nebula from vapornine (wanted something simple to start off with), but it hasn't shipped yet and its been a couple days. I am really anxious to get started, because I'm so ready to get rid of these analogs. I know about the extensive chinese new year holiday(lucky) and that everything is backed up. Still I can't wait to start experimenting with juice and showing all of my smoker friends this awesome thing! They can have their stinky cigarettes and I will puff on my e-cig and taste caramel macchiato. I can see why this has become such a hobby for all of you and I can see my bank account suffering in the future LOL

Anywayz I am rambling... just wanted to introduce myself!! I'll post about my first time vaping on the nebula. Looking forward to becoming part of the community!

welcome allie, and good for you for making the choice. sorry to hear about your sister n mom, i truly hope they beat the beast.

just bear in mind there is no one device/juice/combination that works for everybody. you'll have to find your preferences and that may take some time.
also remember not to beat yourself up if you can't quit smoking in one day. for some of us that's just how it went (myself included), others slowly weaned off, others vape as well as other alternatives (ie snus), and yet others continue to smoke now n again. nothing wrong with any of them.

keep us posted on your progress, and ask any questions. someone here will know the answer ;)

Hey! hope that the nebula works for ya, I'm not familar with it. I was in much the same boat with cancers in my family and my wife giving me the hairy eye to quit. I hadn't paid much attention to e-cigs until another aunt got cancer. my wife kind of demanded I get an e-cig. So I being a fool headed out to the mall and bought a smoking everywhere cig. I thought hey this could be great IF this stupid thing could vape reliable. So I pulled up this fourm and the next day ordered a 501 kit. I had 3 analogues after the 501 came in and have not looked back. I started with 36 mg liquid, dropped in 2 days down to 24 mg liquid, and waiting for an order to come in with lower nic levels to come in. Its not that I am trying to wean off Nicotine just that to avoid hard cravings, and I am now getting way more nicotine than I was smoking American Spirit Lights, with the amount that I am vaping

Best of luck!

Welcome !!!!! :)

I totally understand your points about not wanting to quit but wanting to avoid the harmful effects of analogs. That's the exact reason I chose to start vaping and I've also found the added bonuses that its cheaper and tastes better :)

I recently told my doctor of my switch from analogs to digital and she was exstatic. Her opinion was that was equal to quitting since the amount of nicotine consumed is realatively minor but I'm not consuming the 1000+ other carcinogens.

It's only 1 doctors opinion, but for me its the one that counts.

I wish you the best of luck and all the success in your goals.

Hi Allie and welcome to ECF!!!

Congrats on deciding to switch. I hope you find it as much fun as the rest of us. I've been vaping for right at a year and truly love it! Just yesterday I got a whole bunch of new flavors of e-liquid to try out. It's still as much fun today as it was in the beginning.

Good luck to ya! If you have any questions just ask away!

Thanks guys! Such a warm welcome! Smokers(and ex smokers :p) are some of the best people.... I've met so many cool people over a cigarette. Too bad society demonizes it. I'm sure vaping will still be looked down upon, but at least I won't get the person that walks by while yer smoking and makes a nasty face/comment (cuz of the smell). And if they do I know their full of poop!

bornagainst>> I wasn't that good at first! I ordered a blucig in the beginning, but then I found this forum and heard about how much it sucks. Plus with a 4 week processing time! WTF? I guess the pcc is what made me like it. It is quite cute.

Everyones ranting about the 510! Makes me wonder if I should have gotten that, but I am cool with my first purchase... I think. The 510 will be my second VP though ^_^

Hi geekgirl. I think vaping is going to be perfect for you. The main thing to keep in mind is that it's not an instant, easy transition for everyone (though for some people it totally is) and there is a bit of a learning curve. You inhale a vapor and exhale a vapor, so there's nothing tricky about it, but the overall experience is a bit different. It's about as close as you can get to smoking without actually smoking, though, and it's pretty damn amazing in that way. So anyway, welcome to the wonderful world of vaping! :)

Well if you want ease of use, the 808 i hear is all about that. I'm a 510 user myself and i have to admit the 808 looks easier to use/manage but i dont mind right now considering im mostly vaping at home, i'm like a tiny bear in its cave for winter and well spring is comming so the 808 definitly looks interesting for an on the go PV.

Also you might be interested in this link VapewithPuff.com

It's a pretty cool blog made by Puff which is a super mega 808 fan and she has great tips on maintenance, refilling and such and i'm pretty sure she'd be pleased to help you in any way she can. Our lil Puff is just cool like that :D

Hi Allie;

The members here are great, I agree! I was on overload from TMI (too much info) and posted a desperate plea for help. The responses were almost instant. I am deeply grateful!

I'm sorry to hear about your family's struggle with breast cancer. Its a terrible thing to see a loved one have to go through it. I'll say a prayer for you all. I am a 3 time cancer survivor myself. I'm 45, and I lost my leg at age 3, had breast cancer at 35, and ovarian cancer 20 months later. I've been in remission for nearly 9 years, THANK GOD!!

My doctors read me the riot act for smoking after my diagnosis. I tried everything there was on the market to quit. Patches, gum, wellbutrin, inhalers, and my most recent attempt was with Chantix. I had a heart attack 8 months ago, with a 99% blockage in my coronary artery.
I finally realized how addicted I am when I tried to quit then--again. :cry:I was beating myself up about my failures to quit smoking. I used to say I wish there was such a thing as smokers anonymous. That would have been perfect for me.

Then by accident I found this forum. I didn't even know there was such a thing as e-cigarettes. I've ordered my first starter kit, and I can't wait until it gets here!

I've found some great advice and information here. The people here are just fantastic. Supportive, helpful and encouraging.

From one Noobie to another, welcome!

My choice was to either be evicted along with 12 other senior smokers or start e-cigs, so I didn't start out wanting to quit real cigs. We have until May 1, so I personally can learn vaping habits and get rid of the smoking habits after 57 years of smoking. I don't retrain well, but this is much easier than I thought it would be.

So far three of us are vaping, and it's really lovely. Usually when I quit, someone buys me a pack and begs me to start, but this time I haven't bitten off anyone's head.

When you get your e-cig, move the smokes and lighter to somewhere sort of inconvenient. It's so easy to reach for what you know. As you have read, you can eventually cut down on the nicotine with e-cigs, but it's a choice, not an obligation.

It doesn't take a whole lot of time to charge the batteries or fill cartridges with e-liquid. We thought it would be a PITA. The nice folks at Cignot get stuff to us in two or three days, and ECF is incredible for providing us with info. Read, read, read. Let us know that you're succeeding. It's easier than it seems.

Very sorry to hear about your sister and your mom. I hope everything works out for them. Like many have said here, there is no perfect device for everyone, or else there would be only one type of PV. I like the 2 piece design, but a lot of people like the 3 piece design and it works for them. If you need to try a new one that is fine, just don't give up if you don't get exactly what you thought you would the very first time.

Vape on!!

WELCOME and CONGRATULATIONS geekgirl and trukinlady!

Like others here have said, if you don't love vaping at first, don't give up. You'll enjoy it more every single day you do it! I liked it a lot from my very first vape, but hubby had a different experience. Over the last several weeks though, he has cut his analogs in half, and isn't even trying. He doesn't have a PV of his own yet and has just been sharing mine. The first 9 or 10 days, I’d fix him up a 510 every morning and stick in his shirt pocket, with an extra cartridge that I'd filled. At the end of the day, his 2 hour battery would still have some power left. Now he fills his own, but I throw in an extra 510 atty, cartridge, liquid, and battery. When he comes home at night, he's ready for a new one, has already used up his other two!! Yay. He's never even tried to quit smoking before (whereas I am practically a professional quitter ha). That's the thing, he is doing this without even trying, slowly but surely, he's enjoying vaping more than his analogs. It’s really amazing! I'm so happy for you both!! If you need anything along the way, feel free to ask!

telsie/jeff/janie >> I am fully expecting that it is something I will have to get used to. It won't be the same as analogs, but thats good! After being on this wellbutrin I have learned that its not just the physical/chemical addiction, but the behavioral conditioning I have learned since birth. My parents smoked 2 packs a day my whole life and ALWAYS in the house. My mom smoked while she was pregnant with me as well so I have had nicotine and smoke around me my whole life. To suddenly have that all go away and to train my behaviors all over again seemed to be near impossible. E-cigs are the first thing that has given me some true hope of being able to get rid of the stinky cancer sticks. ..... There was also the realization that if I quit smoking I would have to stop drinking (and I don't even drink that much... its more of a social thing), because there is no way I would couldn't light up a smoke. That would ruin all of the hard work I had put into quitting. I don't know how to go out and drink and not smoke.

Although I have a feeling vaping is going to be quite addicting as well, but its better than cigarettes! I hope that I maybe can work myself to a lower nicotine level and maybe eventually get down to 0mg and just vape for the flavor. Even if that doesn't happen I will still feel accomplished because I don't smoke analogs anymore.

darkcobra>> Yeah I wanted something easy to start off with. I like the idea of the atomizer/cartridge combo. Like trukinlady said.. TMI... its like information overload in here! Its so involved! I dont know all the terms yet.. Like the dripping? That means pulling out the atomizer and putting a few drips of juice on it and then vaping? Seems like something I would have a hard time fitting into my everyday life. I work full time and go to school full time so convenience and ease are VERY important to me. I barely have time to feed myself sometimes. I'll def pay attention to Puff's site....I hope I fall in love with the 808 like she has!

trukinlady>> Another noob! Both beginning on our path to a smoke free existence! You sound like a very strong woman. You have been through alot in your life, but you seem very positive! I admire that, cuz I feel like I wouldn't be able to deal with all of that. Also to think that a woman as strong as you still struggles with cigarettes just goes to show you how bad this addiction is. Cigarettes (and tech stuff) are my biggest weakness. It sounds like they're probably one of yours too. You'll have to post up your first experience too! Which kit did you order? Thank you for your kind words! It means alot!

dmass>> Yes and no to the bank account. So I won't have to make the run to the convenient store anymore and drop $6 a pack.... BUT... I'm already anxious to purchase e-liquids and try them out! I have never seen more flavors for anything in my life. Its gonna be like crack to me... I can see it already. I know how impulsive I can be with certain things (used to be designer handbags).

question though... if I buy alot of juice how should I keep it so it stays fresh(term?)? Does it expire or go bad??

marlise>> 57 years?! WOW. You have me beat! I'm glad that its working for you. I have to say that the stories on this forum of people smoking for 20, 30+ years and dropping analogs right away is so inspiring. I also can be a raging biznatch when I am craving a cigarette. I hate putting people through that. Thanks for the tips! LOL but I wonder where I could "hide" my smokes where I couldn't get to them. I think I tried that before and it wasn't long before I went back to them. I'm sorry about your living situation BTW... that sucks cuz its not like you really WANTED to quit, but were forced to. That usually would make it harder to succeed, but you have your e-cig!

My biggest fear is that somehow the FDA, government, pharm companies and the tobacco companies are going to screw this up for all of us. It makes me so angry. Don't they have better things to do? like saving/creating jobs, health care, fixing the broken financial system and not to mention the severely deteriorated education system in this country. More and more it feels like corporate greed/bad politics are crushing the average hard working person. We need to start some kind of revolution if they take our VPs away from us. Who's with me? Viva la Revolucion!
