I find slews of posts using the term, but not a good explanation of what exactly "throat hit" is. I am a 50-yr ex-smoker, I inhale to the lungs, and I never heard that expression before coming here. I didn't want my question to get lost in another thread. So....PLEASE define exactly what sensation you are talking about? Thanks a bunch!

Hmmm...still don't quite understand it. I never feel a particular "throat hit", and if it was the feeling you get when you need to cough, that wouldn't be pleasant. If that were the case, I would look for a vape that didn't have "good TH" as is said here. I don't know HOW to judge my vapes on flavor, vapor AND TH, as I just don't get it. Thank you everyone. I would welcome any other explanations anyone has. :p

Hrm, I like TH. I like to know I'm smoking/vaping. Without TH there's no point to smoking/vaping; you might as well just breathe deeply! I like that hit in the throat. (I used to smoke Kool NFs before they stopped making them.)

When you inhale you can feel the smoke/vapour in your throat. The sensation that tells you that your smoking aside from flavour/heat/smoke/vapour.

Does this help any? I don't like to use terms such as burning b/c it doesn't burn. If it did I wouldn't have kept smoking. It's what's always kept me on ciggies, that feeling in the pit of your throat whenever you inhale.

If you have different nice strengths on you then vape the stronger one for a while then try to go to the lowere nic, betcha you won't feel the lower nic nearly as much. Lower TH. This is why I vape only 36mg juice. Anything lower just doesn't have enought TH to satisfy.

I used to smoke menthols and menthols bring as added coolness/tingle to the TH. When I smoked ciggies I wouldn't even bother to smoke a none menthol, even in a non-filtered flavour b/c even Lucky Strikes didn't have enough TH for me to tell I was smoking it. I'd have to look at the end to see if it was lit!

I think the other descriptions above explain it pretty well, but here's my take:

One of the things I really enjoyed when smoking cigarettes was the sensation of the smoke as it was inhaled. The "throat hit" would occur right after taking a drag, at the moment when I quickly inhaled the smoke that was in my mouth. The smoke would "hit" the back of my throat and give a pleasant (to me) feeling that I was actually inhaling something.

I still enjoy that feeling while vaping, so tend to select flavors that offer a greater throat hit. It's a personal thing.

Thank you, Desertfremen....that was concise. I took a deep breath, and then a deep inhale, and, yes, I see the difference. I just never thought of it as a "throat hit".

Awesome! Your Very Welcome! ^.^

I'm so happy! Written English has never been one of my best forms for communication. This makes my day! ^.^
