i refuse to go back to the dark ages of being banned outside in the snow, cold, rain with no shelter like I'm deseased....i vape discreetly so i don't freak people out... but i don't want uneducated people pushing me into the smokers class, that will only make it that much easier for people to ban it and look down upon vaping. if you act like there is something wrong with it....people will assume there IS something wrong with it. ...but i would tell people not to vape mounds of clouds in public....and stop buying e-cigs...that look like real cigs.

I totally agree with you! The reasons I switched to vaping was cost, having to go outside to smoke, health and several others. I have found that most people are curious about them but since they aren't avaiable (other than is the disponsable versions) locally, most people don't know enough about them. So I take my time and educate it. It does help to vap something that does NOT look like a cigarette AND use an ejuice other than tobacco. When I go out in public I use either a coffee or some fruity (Peach or Pineapple) and most people like the smell!

At first, I was going outside to the "smokers" area to vape, but no more, and people are not complaining either. At least, after I educate them about the ecigarettes. In fact, they applaud my quitting cigarettes!

I do not vape in peoples homes unless they smoke in their home, I don't vape in anyone elses car, and when in public places, if I feel the need to vape then I find a ladies room or go outside. I think we need to be very respectful of others. I think vaping is safe, I believe the second hand vapors are harmless, non-the-less I will not vape in my own car if my grandchild is riding with me. My car windows get a cloudy film on them & they need regular cleaning worse than when I smoked in the car because I vape with windows up & I always left a window open a tad when I smoked. I'd hate to find out that there is something bad in second hand vapor knowing I let my grands inhale it, so I don't.
I don't understand why folks are so inclined to force the issue to do it in public places. What's the deal?

I think it’s fine that you have set standards for when and where you want to vape. While you state to the contrary, it seems like you are not quite convinced that the second hand vapor is safe enough to expose others to so you choose to go outside or hide in a bathroom to vape. Again that’s fine if that is your decision. Given your standards however I do think it’s kind of odd to expose others while you vape in the ladies room.

As far as someone forcing the issue by vaping in public, I don’t understand. If it’s legal and I am of legal age and I am convinced that my exhaled vapor is not harming anyone and I choose to vape in public, what business is it of anyone else? Perhaps the one forcing the issue is the person who objects to what someone else is doing. Just as you make these kind of decisions for yourself I would hope you would extend those same rights to others.

As u feel kind of odd while expose the vapor to others, is not like u going to blow in their faces? I do belive the vapor smell better than the ladies toliet(maybe).
I don't feel the shy or odd when vape in the ladies, I think is definitely better than vaping with the smokers in the smoking zone. Hence it doesn't even stink the place.
Coming to think of this, have u ever smoke analog in the ladies in the past?

I think as people become more familiar with ecigs it will be more acceptable to people in general. Usually the questions I receive when someone sees me vaping is where to find out more information about ecigs. I was in a bar in KCMO recently and chose a seat at the far end of the bar (away from others). Many people were going outside to have a cigarette and then coming back in. When I pulled out my 510 and vaped, the bar tender came down and I thought oh no, she is going to tell me to go outside (and it was a nasty day) but she wanted to know information on where to obtain one.

It ended with people all around me asking about them. While they had heard of them, they hadn't ever seen one in operation. I had my eGo and 510 with me and several clean tips and let several people try them out. They were really impressed with the vapor from the eGo compaired to the 510. On nasty days, even the die hard smoker is sick of having to go outside for a cigarette and they are very interested in knowing about ecigs. For demonstrating them and telling them about ecigs, and even letting a couple of the smokers try them, a couple of people bought me drinks. So educating others about ecigs will broaden the use of ecigs and could have some side benefits also.

NOTE: When people found out the potential savings of switching and the health benefits of switching, they become very interested! If you have a couple of clean tips with you and let them try it themselves they are very impressed with it.

+1, good for you! Educating, not hiding is the key.

Great! Do lead them into ECF and I sure your people around you will be vapers in no time.

I do stealth vape in public area; I don't put out plumes of smoke to call attention. I do blow plumes in my own home, car and outdoors but not around my grands or anyone that might object.
The jury is still out regarding the effects of vaping toward our health; even though it has thousands less harmful parts than inhaling an analog. It's our individual right to decide how we pollute our own body but can we force that on others? Ecigs have been banned in various places. I would hope that those of us who cherish the habit would go the distance to avoid risk of bans by not imposing it on non smokers until we have evidence that it is safe enough to blow our plumes in the presence of a newborn baby or an infirmed adult in a doctors office.
I'm simply begging that we advocate safe practice. Once the research provides evidence that the vapors are 100% safe--- that's the time to forge forward and fight for the right to vape everywhere.
Best to all of you, I mean no harm.

I love my ecig, I really do, but I don't vape anywhere smoking isn't allowed.

The other night at a restaurant, someone nearby had an ecig. This was the first one I had seen in the wild, other than my own. The restaurant was non smoking and it really freaked out a lot of the patrons. The manager or whomever came over, after complaints by customers, that he would need to go outside. His vaping was conspicuous.

Healthier than smoking or not, when vaping, it LOOKS like you're smoking and that's the issue for most non-smokers/non-vapers out there. I don't want these things drawing negative attention. A few people freaking out and poof, this ecig bubble could burst. Let's face it, laws get passed because of people who make a stink, laws like no smoking on the street in certain cities! I am really afraid the whole ecig issues is one Fox News story away from being banned because, 'it's so bad, the FDA won't even rate it a tobacco product'!. Really, think about it.

SO I say, be accommodating to those who don't know and don't vape where you can't smoke, unless it's really known in your area and in that establishment.

I went outside to vape with the guy who was asked to go outside to "smoke". He had some genericish looking ecig, I didn't ask. So I pull out my silver bullet 6v and have a vape with him.

His looked like a cigarette, was shaped like a cigarette and people thought it was a cigarette and that is, what I told him, part of the problem. There are a lot of people who hate smoking, yes hate. And what they hate even more is if they see somebody smoking in a place where smoking isn't allowed and doing so brazenly. It's not the same thing, but it's similar in a way to a toy gun. We know they're way safer than the real thing, but when in public, you don't pull out a toy gun and act like it's a real gun. It freaks people out.

So please, let's be overly considerate of those who don't know about ecigs and vaping. If you can't smoke there, don't vape there. Of course there are exceptions, but when there are people who look like they don't know how to use email (people who are more likely to call their congressmen and senators) refrain from conspicuous indoor public building vaping.

Agree or not, please consider the ramifications.

Thanks.

But, see this is the problem. We are so consumed with "political correctness" that people are scarred to even do such a thing as vape in public. The reason laws are passed due to smoking is because second hand smoke is dangerous. Vaper isn't dangerous, so its victimless. Don't you ever get tired of having to hide what you are doing because the guy next door may get offended by it? I say the heck with them. They need to educate themselves if it's such a big deal to them.

PianoGuy, I get your post, HomeDepot is a very big place!

Pudgey7, I get you too but negative attention isn't good attention. I stealth vape everywhere I can and openly vape where permission is granted but I don't want to upset people that don't understand what it is I'm doing. I just don't see it being good for the cause in the long run. I do see your point though.

If you ask permission to do that, it makes it seem like your doing something wrong..

I'm kind of a traditionalist. I like seeing those movies where the boss gives the secretary a smack on the highknee and is chain smoking in his office. Now, even though I'm only 31 years old, and don't really recall any of that stuff for real, It's kind of fun to think of being able to smoke inside places, and people accepting it. I guess I look at how much stuff has changed over the years, and it makes me feel a little like im back in the "good ole days". I know this may sound funky to some, but it's just how I personally feel. LOL

I got to disagree with this. I agree that negative ideas about the e-cig are dangerous to it's survival. How do you think people get these negative ideas though? Not being educated about them. If people who vape are stuck outside or restricted to where they can use it your giving away awesome opportunity to teach people the correct things about e-cigs. How can you also convince people it's safer if your still vaping outside like it isn't safe? I agree with avoiding problems though. If I simply can not change someone's mind about e-cigs then I will politely put it down for them. I would say though that 90 percent of the time even the angriest of people can be reasoned with and walk away with a good attitude about e-cigs. I won't stop vaping in public places. I love every chance to teach people about them who might not otherwise get to know about them.

Let's hope you don't think of it as the 'good ol days' when women had to accept being harrassed at work........(I think you were kidding anyway).

Otherwise, the antis have become quite entitled and a little big for their britches as far as I'm concerned. Now we're all supposed to tap dance around what people don't like to look at? They're so used to getting their way that now they expect to have the universe reflect their views even without any evidence of harm to support their opposition. Looking like smoking isn't smoking, period. Sooner or later they're going to have to get with the times just like smokers had to do when the evidence showed second hand smoke was dangerous. Smokers adapted and now it's their turn. Wonder how they'll like it?

I am, for the most part, a non-confrontational type of person. I also could describe myself as a person that does not want to make others around me uncomfortable, or cause them stress intentionally.

With that said, my opinion on this matter may come as a surprise. I think the idea of "not vaping where smoking isn't allowed" is not going to help "our cause" at all - in fact, I see it hurting us. I admit I have not read through all 56 pages in this thread, so what I'm about to say may have already been said, but what the hey, I'm gonna have *my* say, lol.

If we stand with smokers (out in the cold, rain, etc) in designated "smoking areas", we are sending the message that vaping is no different than smoking. We will educate no one this way. We will only feed the myth that it "could" be harmful.

If we vape openly and don't act like we are trying to hide something illegal or dangerous, we then have the opportunity to educate. If we respond kindly to questions (or even out-right rudeness towards us), then maybe, just maybe, we have the chance to convert another smoker who may have never heard of an e-cig. If we obligingly put away our e-cigs when asked to in a public place (but offer an explanation of what it really is), then we possibly gain moral support.

Personally whenever I go out to a public place (like Home Depot or some such place), and know I *might* be vaping there, I'll take a couple packaged carts with me and of course my bottle of juice. That way, if I'm approached by someone who sees me vaping, I have an opportunity to educate by offering them a try.

My opinion is that we need to educate the ignorance - not hide from it; not run from it; not cower in the corner afraid to confront it. Now of course I fully accept that some just don't want to be bothered with educating anyone and just want to be left alone. So they choose not to vape where they can't smoke. Hey - I've got nothing against you that feel that way - that is your right to choose for yourself. But I also have the right (at least at this point) to vape where I choose to, until the law tells me otherwise. I'm not going to be a bully about it and start yelling at those that freak out when they see me and tell me to "stop smoking" in their establishment. I will be considerate and put the e-cig away, and offer to educate - IF they choose to be educated on it.

That's just my 2 cents here.

Oh, one more thing: I think the idea of "colored" vapor is a baaaad idea. I live in Oklahoma, and I'm not saying people are any less intelligent here per capita than anywhere else, but I'll tell ya - if I was walking down the mall and plumes of (let's say...) yellow "smoke" was following me, I'd probably be detained and investigated for delivering some form of poisonous gas.

I live in King County Washington, they just banned public vaping without any reports of problems or complaints, our county board of health had, of their own volition come up with the idea that returning smoking to the public eye, public e-cigarette use threatened to undermine the social norming impact of the current smoking ban. They don't need to see people vaping in public to come up with reasons to ban public vaping. Here is a quote from Councel woman Julia Patterson:
"I would like to see us protect those public places and places of employment from the image of someone sitting at their desk with something that looks identical to a cigarette and puffing on it, That is a very powerful subliminal message."

Thanks to them, Now I am going out of my way to vape in public!

Thanks,
Jeff~
