Every now and then I get a scratchy throat ..and last night I felt I could not breathe..of course I am sure it is because of smoking and not vaping..but

How much can vaping stop coughing...or shortness of breath..if at all?

I know emphysema can never get better..but can vaping make is worse?

How long after stopping smoking can one expect to stop coughing in the middle of the night?

Does the amount of vaping make any difference when it comes to stopping coughing?

Does nicotine cause coughing?

Can vaping cause insomnia?

There were days I slept through the night..but lately I wake up almost hourly.

Cause I wake up at all hours...I used to wake up to cough...now I just wake up...I cough also...not as much...but I still wake up...

How much can vaping stop coughing...or shortness of breath..if at all? Vaping in and of itself won't stop your coughing, it's the lack of smoking that does that. How long really depends on what/how much you smoked and it generally gets worse before it gets better. Your body is finally able to get that crap up

I know emphysema can never get better..but can vaping make is worse?no. A PG allergy could mimic the symptoms though, which could go along with the scratchy throat you mentioned. Try all VG juice and see if that makes a difference. Dry hits will screw with your throat if you're still getting those[/b]

How long after stopping smoking can one expect to stop coughing in the middle of the night?see question 1

Does the amount of vaping make any difference when it comes to stopping coughing?nope

Does nicotine cause coughing?Possibly, it can cause throat irritation if the level is too high. Also see my comment about PG allergies

Can vaping cause insomnia? Absolutely. If you're having a hard time sleeping, try lower nic at night

Where to start... my partner said I had smokers cough all the time though I didn't notice probably because I got so used to it. I never have it now. Ever.

I can run up the stairs now without getting out of breath.

Nicotine doesn't cause coughing. It might keep you awake at night if you vape continuously with high nic, nic is a stimulant, sometimes good (lifts you up) sometimes bad (it can be a depressant) like all things do it in moderation and it's not an issue.

My comments are based on personal experience and what I have read since I started vaping.

I would never in a million years swap the problems from vaping (which are minimal, if they exist at all) with the problems I had from smoking.

I'll try and answer a few based on personal experience but is in no way is one person a scientific representation of the vaping population.

Every now and then I get a scratchy throat ..and last night I felt I could not breathe..of course I am sure it is because of smoking and not vaping..but
I think the PG probably causes more of a scratchy throat feeling. PG gives you more of a throat hit. VG gives you vapor but can cause a heavier feeling in the lungs if you inhale it somewhat deeply like I do. About 3 weeks in I got a pretty bad sore throat and switched over to inhaling just into mouth and exhaling through the nose.

I have little if any cough any more. If I exercise I get short of breath but I think that's from lack of exercise and cardio routine. Most exercise I get is going up and down stairs 4 times a day and a short distance from car to office.

I know emphysema can never get better..but can vaping make is worse?
No clue. Maybe others can help you with that one. I think I've heard a few mention that it helps slightly with their asthma.

I think it's a symptom of quitting smoking not of vaping. Although if your throat is getting irrated try not inhaling into lungs or throat for a while. It was about week 3 for me and a coughed non stop at night for almost a week. Some people go through this process and some don't. Some go through it after 2 months in. For some it lasts from several days to months. I think it's mostly your lungs just clearing out the tar.

Does nicotine cause coughing?
See comments above. It may irritate your throat slightly. Not sure if you ever tried the gum or unflavored but personally think nicotine has a slight peppery taste. My taste buds could be different but that's what I detected when chewing the gum or vaping unflavored...maybe that's the PG?

Can vaping cause insomnia?
I've had insomnia for years way before I started vaping. From what I can gather it acts much like caffeine does. So if it is keeping you up at night cut back your nic level at nights. I'm at 24 for the most part right now. I tried switching to a 4mg at night but it caused me to replapse a few times. Try lower levels but probably don't cut it as far back as I did if you have issues sleeping. If you had issues sleeping before hand it's more than likely nothing to do with vaping. Did you used to smoke before you went to bed? This was a few years ago but Dr said trying to cut smoking out 2-3 hours before bed would help as it increases heart rate and can make it more difficult to fall asleep.

There were days I slept through the night..but lately I wake up almost hourly.
Welcome to years of my world...if you find something that works besides prescriptions let me know.

Sounds like you may still be waking up because of the cough. You can cough and wake yourself up and not even realize it was the cough that woke you up. You have anyone that sleeps with you can give you some insight into when/why you are waking up.

Savoir-Faire is everywhere!
The first few days I noticed I was sort of plugged up and it wasn't nice. After about 4 days, though, I was fine. That was with juice that was around 70/30 PG/VG. I did notice I was coughing but I was already coughing due to smoking. I was also very dehydrated and needed to drink more.

A few weeks later I was having no issues at all in that respect and I'm no longer coughing except very occasionally.

I definitely had some issues with not being able to sleep very well at first but that was probably due to my chain vaping. I no longer have a problem.

Some of these things you're just going to have to monitor in yourself and see if it's from the switchover, the stopping of smoking, the becoming adjusted to the new delivery of nicotine, or if you actually have an allergy or sensitivity to one of the ingredients or another.

It's very personal for everyone.

However, since you're no longer inhaling burning stuff and smoke into your lungs you will likely notice a huge improvement over time.

Just to give you and others some encouragement, five years ago I had the early signs of emphysema. My last chest x-ray, a couple of months ago, was normal (as in non-smoker) for my age (67)!

I also can sleep all night without a lung purge and the occasional mild anxiety attacks due to lack of O2.
