In your position, I would invest in an external charger and if the batteries are 24 months old or older, I would buy new batteries also. (Please use a trusted vendor for authentic cells; not Ebay/amazon/social media sources.)

Do you use good battery practice, like do you OWN a charger.
Oh heck HERE, do your research it will benefit you.
Bad's blog is probably more friendly for a newish vaper.

My question would be, like can you warranty the mod though? Because it is sort of my understanding that mechanical stuff can be all connected so if it is doing weird stuff, send it back for warranty. For all you (or I, honestly I don't know MUCH about electronics BUT smok is unreliable and I would hate for the mod to blow up. I'm not going to say that is SUPER LIKELY but it is for sure MORE likely when compared to a mod that WILL USB charge correctly, if you get what I'm saying.

If you are charging batteries using the device, I suggest not doing that (especially in a SMOK device) and using an external charger instead.

Yeah I know about that one, and while I respect everything Mooch does, his Blog only has about 10 tested chargers, the one I linked has like all of them. Not to mention Mooch's reviews have a lot less detail. I am not saying his reviews are not useful, or bad, just that I like the additional details on the other site.
For instance I have used charts and thermal imaging from the other site to rule out chargers that I might be interested in:
NOTE: I am NOT recommending the above charger, I just grabbed one at random to pull a chart and thermal image. This is actually a pretty low rated charger.

Well thanks probably gonna buy a new mod and maybe batteries if smok is this untrusted i think its not worth it to try to fix or something
Also a good tip if you're getting an external charger @anza72, is to make sure that it can fit 21700 cells. As mods are starting to use them more, it will future proof you a little and save you some money in the long run.
A damm good charger is the SkyRC MC3000, but it's advanced and expensive. Build quality is excellent, and the ability to create 30 charging profiles is highly useful.

For a battery that’s old if it’s drained every day. Battery life is a bit complicated. Apparently they age just with time a little bit. Cycling ages them more, but not cycling them at all is also bad. If they’re not charged or drained all the way this also creates less wear. Generally though, a battery used daily for a year is frequently reaching end of life.
A SMOK mod that lasts a year of daily use is already highly unusual. Many last a few months or less. A tiny fraction of what most others generally do. A year means it’s perhaps maybe over halfway what an average normal replacable battery mod will do. Feel lucky.
