I did it! I wrapped my first coil and it works, beautifully. Okay, so it was my 2nd coil. First one wrapped around the screwdriver that I needed to use to tighten it to the build deck. D'oh! Rookie mistake. Ran to the garage, grabbed what I believe to be a 6d nail (around 2.4mm) fussed around getting it tightened down. Checked resistance on my Vamo V7 and 1.2ohm took a guess on how much cotton and a kayfun clone actually wicks great

I know this isn't a big deal to some of you, but I had only taken 2 puffs off a buddy's dripper before attempting this. So I think I did good. :)

kayfun leaks a little sometimes, but I'm still learning how hard to draw.

There is a learning curve with most juice delivery devices, and the Kayfun is no different.

My Kayfun Lite Plus was my second exposure to rebuilding coils. (A Genesis-style tank was my first - not exactly a great experience for reasons that I'll not go into.) The Kayfun's do have a tighter draw, which I have to remember when switching to the wide open draw of my RDA.

Each time you make and wick a coil, it will be better than the previous. Practice makes perfect. :thumb:

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Coil still seems to be going strong. Had a slight scare tonight, still not sure what happened. It was fine when I went in to the store, but when I came out, the vamo was reading 0.4Ω I go into the gas station down the road, come out and it's 0.6Ω after I get home, I check it at again and it's back to 1.2Ω Taking a guess, it's from when I was trying to blow the leaked juice out of the airhole, as that was the last thing I did.

Wrapped up another coil earlier. I think my old one was a bit too close to the build deck causing the leak and that possible short. This one came out at 1.7Ω then after finessing it into place ended up at 1.6Ω Gave it a puff at 14W like I was starting to enjoy on the other. WTF was that throat burning nasty tasting nonsense? I'm guessing it was a dry hit, could have been skin oils from handling the coil, but I never want to experience it again. Backed it down to 10W because I'm a wuss like that and let it sit for a minute. Now all is better, but I'm half afraid to bump it back up.

Side note to jinx myself. I don't have an immediate gushing leak or the water whistle sound, so I think I'm getting functionally better, even if the 1st was prettier.

Hi Argus and welcome aboard!

Great feeling, isn't it? you have every right to be proud! As Baditude said, it's a learning curve and gets better with time. The burning taste was a dry hit, so you're right on that score, and yes - it's um... something to avoid. :)

The two other aspects of building that takes some practice is correct (effective) wicking and Vaping technique for the particular device and liquid.

You want to have enough wich to get juice to the coil, but not so much that the wick gets so compressed that it chokes off the flow. Also, depending on the PG/VG ratio, you may need to give the coil a few seconds between pulls to re-saturate. Inner diameter of the coil and wicking material come into play here, too.

Just takes a bit of practice, though, and you'll have it all down in no time.

Congratulations on your early successes! :toast:

hope this helps and Happy Vaping!

Sounds good to me!
