WASHINGTON — Most Americans believe electronic cigarettes are harmful to people’s health, according to a new national poll — even though scientists have not reached a consensus on the risks of the increasingly popular products.

The results of the poll, by STAT and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, could bolster the Food and Drug Administration as it moves to regulate e-cigarettes for the first time. There is solid support for a broad range of government restrictions among both Democrats and Republicans, with virtually no partisan differences to be found .....

I am at least pleased that the Study Authors thought to include this Statement.

"Possible sources of non-sampling error include non-response bias, as well as question wording and ordering effects. Non-response in telephone surveys produces some known biases in survey-derived estimates because participation tends to vary for different subgroups of the population. To compensate for these known biases and for variations in probability of selection within and across households, sample data are weighted by household size, cell phone/landline use and demographics (sex, age, race/ethnicity, education, and region) to reflect the true population. Other techniques, including random-digit dialing, replicate subsamples, and systematic respondent selection within households, are used to ensure that the sample is representative."

Because Telephone Surveying that is conducted weekdays from 9 ~ 5:00pm tends to get a Disproportional amount of Retirees and the Elderly.

It would have been Nice to see a Histogram of the Age Distribution for those who Answered this Survey.

It also would have been Nice to see a Larger Sampling Size. 2,500+.

People believe about everything they see on the tube. And almost all the media coverage on vaping has been negative.
Those who vape are still a small minority of the population. Spotting a vaper in the wild is rare where I live.
So what do you expect these surveys to say?

And older people, those retirees mentioned above, are more inclined to believe what they hear on The News -- because times have changed, and The News no longer reflects anything like reality, as it did in the days of Walter Cronkite. Older people nowadays are probably not widely aware that The News nowadays is for sale to the highest bidder -- the ads -- rather than having anything at all to do with real facts.

In a country where the "reality" shows are the most popular... Well what can one expect?

Some people even think that Rip Tripper is real!

I just think he's an intolerable idiot who really oughta either ease up on the caffeine or get some thyroid medication for those pop-eyes. Or both maybe. :D

I'm always rather graph-challenged, but THAT graph.... gawd.

I probably wasn't in a good mood to try to look at it anyway, considering how sickeningly mislead the public has been, thanks to the anti-ecig junk "studies" and "public health" propaganda the media has been dishing out non-stop for the past couple of years.

I think sometimes there is a Disconnect between what a Study/Survey is wanting to find, and how the Statistical Data is Represented to make a Conclusion by the Media/3rd Party.

I could have Very Easily have taken the Data from this Survey and written a Favorable Article about e-Cigarettes. And instead of doing a Human Interest Drive-By like this...

John Dunn of Garland, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, said he has used e-cigarettes to quit smoking tobacco cigarettes. But a friend who tried the same thing got hooked on e-cigarettes.

“I think they’re pretty different, but also I’ve seen people get on the vapors and not be able to stop,” said Dunn, 33, a Democrat. He’s in favor of some regulation, including warning labels: “They should know they might get addicted.”

... used one that was along these lines.

Mark Barns of East Overshoe Wisconsin, a pack a day smoker for over 20 years, said that he had tried to quit smoking numerous times. But was unable to do quit until he tried using an e-Cigarette. Since switching to an e-Cigarette, Mr. Barns says that his overall health has improved dramatically.

"I think e-Cigarettes can be very effective in helping someone to quit smoking," said Mr. Barns, 54, a father of three and grandfather of two. He’s in favor of some regulation, but worries that the FDA will over-regulate e-Cigarette: “I hope the FDA is closely considering the recent scientific studies showing that e-Cigarette are far less harmful than smoking. And does not impose restrictive regulations on them reducing the number of smokers who could quit like I did.”

The title of this thread should be changed as follows...
Evidence that the mainstream media has been successful in their efforts to propagandize, and instill a hatred for electronic cigarettes in the general public, using falsely concluded summaries of data that might otherwise be useful to scientists who have not sold out to the powers that be.

Yeah, perhaps that is a bit too long.
