Not me! I love my tube mods! Here's the latest love of my life...
(Sorry for the crappy pics. Bad light in the office)

upload a picture

Decided to get back to my roots... 3 1/3 wrap of 30awg Kanthal on the Micro-Gen w/ XC-132 wick... approx 0.85 ohms.

picture sharing

Having built and enjoyed a few Micro-Gens, it means something when I say, "that thing is miniscule!"

(but I know what kinda thermo-nucleics it has to offer)

Is it too early to be thinking of this?

By the way, I'm just guessing, but I think your air hole is a tad lower than that. With tightly bunched coils (expecially) you can have more lead wire without hot legs. Take advantage of this to locate your coil right at the height of the air hole.

In this ↑ instance, I went "up" from where my lead hits my Pos. contact. But you could "jog down" with your to leg, too.

Pro'ly I'm wrong tho, and your coil is right on your air hole, and I'm just running my mouth for air-exchange. :p

Well, I have noticed that glowing it with a lighter doesn't quite cut it with 26. I can still see a black center in the wire with the bic. Needs the torch for softening it up. Haven't paid close attention, just reflecting on my habits. I definitely have every last kink and turn (legs n all) worked out with fine pliers before I take it off my wrapping jig.

(dang, I was gonna say 1.3, no really ;))

This was my very first RBA mod & build. An ERA/RDA clone modded for bottom feed & bottom air, juice well, & dual coils. Juice bottom feeds from the center pin & the air travels through channels that I slit in the center post insulator through holes above the 510 threads like a regular atty.

That lathe is a sweet piece of hardware. What kind is it?

Thanks. My lathe is a PM1236 & my mill is a PM45M. Both are the Precision Matthews brand.

Beautiful! Looks like a dream setup.
Too bad you don't live in Jax, FL... I could see us becoming great friends... (Or me being an annoying pain in you .... Lol)

I've never seen a 6 jaw chuck... Usually 3 or 4 jaws. Looks really nice. You ever made any mods from scratch?

Haha, thanks! Nope, haven't tried making a mod yet but I just may some day just for the hell of it. I love my REOs so if I get time I might.

6 jaws are better for thin walled workpieces like tubing to help prevent deformation. I got into maching from modding flashlights. I love the 6 jaw but there are plenty of times where I must use a 3 or 4 jaw.

Well if you ever decide to turn out any tube mods, let me know... Especially if you're open to ideas. ;)

Maybe not but if I do a tube mod would be first since it's easiest. But it wouldn't be cheap if I decided to sell one, I work with mostly Ti.

^ Or High quality, bottom fed SS RBAs with center drain holes and ceramic bases.

Hey, have you been snooping around here! An RBA, bottom fed of course ;), is what I have planned to work on next as soon as I get some builds finished up. For the first one I plan on using parts from the same RBA a RM is made out of so the ceramic base is one of them if all goes well & I don't find something else.
