I coughed up tar for the first 2.5 weeks when I went to vaping. If your cough persists beyond that it may be PG sensitivity.

When I started vaping over 4 years ago it took a while and many juices before I figured out I had a sensitivity to PG!

I switched to all VG for a long time,, now I can vape either, but I like a 50/50 mix, the VG gives a lot denser vapor cloud LOL

You want to make sure you're vaping correctly, too. You don't pull directly into your lungs like you do a cigarette. You pull into your mouth first and then sort of inhale a little. Pulling too deeply might be irritating your lungs.

Just a thought.

Every time I try this I cough BUT I do realize it's a technique I'm not used too so I'll have to keep practicing until I can do it right.

I have been vaping for six months, now. Prior to switching to vaping I had a bad smoker's cough. When I started vaping, it went away in a matter of a few days. At about the three month point, a much milder cough appeared. I have been trying different mixes of PG/VG up to and including 100% VG. I tried different flavors because my favorites were Atomic Cinnacide and Vanilla, both can be irritants. In the end I tried a lower nic level (from 12 mg to 6 mg). That helped, but the cough came back. I have now gone to a 50/50 mix with 0 nic and no flavoring. The taste is surprisingly good, the vapor is outstanding on my Pro Tanks, and so far (4 days) it is working for me.

You might try different flavors and reduced nic levels.

I ask this without trying to be a smart***.......
If you are vaping with no flavoring how is the taste surprising good without it?
What are you tasting?

I quit 6 months ago, the patch at first, then e-cigs. I was in the hospital for a week and I was coughing up mouthfuls after surgery so I decided to quit, and the fact that I couldn't talk them into wheeling me out for my fix, lol. At first I wasn't coughing very much and when I did I noticed that it wasn't that green gross looking stuff (don't mean to get too graphic) like it was when I was smoking 2 pks a day. I wasn't coughing very much when I was using disposables but since I started using the fillable's I've noticed a dry cough some days. I figure most of the coughing that produces phlegm is from post smokers cough since I smoked for 30+ years. It takes 7 years for your lungs to repair themselves. I think the dry cough is a mixture of PSC and irritation from PG. But I do know that the way I cough now compared to when I smoked is way different. I used to carry cough drops with me in case I was in a meeting and the uncontrollable, everybody wondering if you're going to live, coughing fit came on. For now I am going to continue vaping and slowly reduce the amount of nicotine I my juice. When I used the disposables I bought 18mg's and they were very mild and I didn't cough. Now I use eliquid at 18mg's and it's not so mild, I wonder if that could be part of the cause.

another vote for post smokers cough. almost 8 months later and I still get the occasional coughing spell. over time though they have become fewer and far between. so few I can even remember now when the last time I had a coughing spell was. some flavors I have noticed if I vape them heavily will give me somewhat of an itchy throat the next morning.

I had given up smokes for about 3 years and found I still coughed occasionally. It wasn't a big cough more just a throat clearing but always 2 or 3 in a row.
That left me after about 6 months of not smoking.
I didn't get the cough up all the muck type coughs that i have seen others get around me when quitting.
I've only been vaping for a month or so, because slowly but surely I was picking up the fags again and this is to stop me from doing that.
I have found, vaping also produces the same cough in me. ( I don't use nic)
TBH I think it is a little psychosomatic and that i don't really need to, but it's what I did for 20 years odd.
Old habits die hard I guess even if you think they're gone.

..... if you did anything 30+ times a day for 20 years the muscle memory would be excellent and you would be ..... HOT at it.

Oh the time we have wasted :)

There's only one other thing I've done every day for over 20 years but let's not talk about that  .......although my technique here is excellent
