I got my BSB a couple of weeks ago and had a bit of overfill seepage at the atty connector. When I removed the atty and wiped the connection area off some paint came with it.
Can anyone familiar with powder coating tell me if once the flaking starts that it will continue?

hmmm... I'm guessing they may want you to return it for repair? That looks like it flaked and it wasn't due to vaping paint thinner and melting it. Powercoat (or regular paint) should not flake. As to continued flaking. Hard to tell but it's likely. I'm guessing that the surface wasn't prepped properly or something got on it after prep so the paint didn't adhere. Maybe oil from machining the hole or CNC coolant or when the connector was assembled or someone on the assembly line picked their nose. :) Actually I'm pretty sure they get sent out for powercoat so it was the paint shop that failed.

Well, I suppose I will have to get in touch with Altsmoke about returning my BSB for a new paint job. It seems my BSB doesn't care for pg liquid. The more I wipe it the more it flakes. Oh well, it should be an easy fix.

But I'm gonna hold off until after the Memorial Day holiday. I know I will need my BSB to deal with the gas price sticker shock I get every year.

Here's another pic. If this keeps up I'll end up with a two tone Silver Bullet.

If it wasn't prepped properly or the powdercoat not applied properly you can probably flake/chip it off with your fingernail.

You're not wiping up your liquid spills with a screwdriver are you? :)

I think I got my BSB in september 09 or so (maybe october). The powedercoat seemed to hold up pretty well, but has a few dings where it came off, mostly on the bottom edge, and some on the sides. In the past month or two though, I noticed the same thing around the atomizer connection.. the powdercoat has flaked off completely in a ring around the connector, and is continuing to grow in size in an irregular circle around it. I've had a few spills through the atomizer, but have always cleaned it up as soon as I have noticed. The softest material I have used is tissue, and the roughest being a paper towel. I don't think I have been excessively harsh with them, I do try to be gentle. I guess I had kindof decided that the powdercoat just isn't as tough as I thought it would be. It has made me wonder if the backup BSB I bought should have been just a SB... but I like the black soooo much better than the blinding shiny draw-attention mirror like finish.

It appears that there are other markings on that top? I am the assembly line:p. I do not recall picking my nose when I assemble.

haha, I remembered that you don't do the powdercoating in house so if it wasn't prepped properly that happened at the painters (they should have cleaned the bugers off it). Now that you mention it there are some other marks on there. That peculiar "+" at 3 o'clock.

If I could ever get my macro function to work on my camera I'd take some pics of mine. I dropped it on concrete and it got a couple of dings but no flaking. ...and then I got a drop of super glue on it and you can't wipe it off fast enough before it gets into the paint so there's a small bump on the side of it. I'm probably going to try the paint removal and turn my BB into polished. I'm going to leave my SB black though no matter what.

It's happening to a small degree on mine. Only after I allowed liquid to sit around there for a few days without cleaning, thought some kind of electrolysis had happened. It's not as bad as that though, and not flaking off any further. Compared to the condition of other devices I've used for shorter periods of time, I'd say the powder coat is pretty durable.

I wonder if it's something in the liquids, my black Intellicig Evo's all started chipping off as soon as they'd get juice spilled on them. I could drop them on concrete and never see a scratch, but juice did them in every time.

Since Feb, guess my powder coat guy kept his nose clean :p

How bout some high strength e-liquid instead.

ETA: I'm just going to guess that electricity should be involved as well. I've spilled juice on other parts of the thing and nothing happened. Have dings on the bottom piece that show silver but do not chip away. The ring around my connector actually bubbled and raised in a crinkly way before it came off. This is why I was thinking some sort of electrolysis happened.

Ok, check this out. Above you might be able to see the raised dot at the top of my connector, at about 11 o'clock. Below is a close up of that same spot, see how it's jagged like a lightning bolt? I could describe as a mole trail traveling across the yard, like something is crawling under the coating, traveling from the connector (electricity??).

I have had atties chip after an alcohol soak. My wife has been using her BSB since the first batch of black, it is not chipping around the atty connector. What kind of juice are you guys using?:p

TV's banana foster with 20% vg at 48 mg. strength was the juice I was using when it first started. Prior to that I was using a pure vg at 36 mg strength in various flavors.

Good lord, 48mg? Every once & awhile I'll get the urge for a ciggy, I think 48mg would tear that craving to pieces.

I know this isn't the right place for this question ... But, What are the chances of getting blank carto's.

Something to put some 48mg in for that off day, pop it in & take some toots.
