I don’t know about powdery because I have a hard time describing flavors and their specific nuances. But ethyl maltol adds mouthfeel to my mixes. I have the powder and just add a pinch of crystals because if you over do it you’ll mute the mix and a lot of flavors have EM already in them. Another additive that is supposed to add mouthfeel is malic & citus acids also called sour or tart. I haven’t messed with this too much and have nothing to add other then some claim it helps add mouthfeel.

You know I don't notice EM. I'm tempted to mix a juice that relies on it and mix a bottle with it and one without it and get to know it better

It’s common to mix a very small quantity as a single flavor juice and test it on a wickless dripper.

That’s a great way to get to know both addictives and flavors. I got a bunch of 15ml bottles just for that purpose. Whenever I get a new flavor I make a tiny batch (usually around 10ml) to see how I like it. Then I might add two small batch single flavors together to see how I like that. It’s really the best way to go about mixing IMHO. You’ll have a bunch of single flavors you can mix and match to create more complex recipes with little risk of having to dump a bunch of juice that’s unvapeable, because it will happen. Everyone makes a crap juice when they get started. The key is to minimize crap juice on your journey to DIY bliss.
