..... "has to be cheaper than making them yourself".....

Not really. You can get 100 ft of kanthal for $6.75, it'll make about 200 +/- coils. That's about .03 cents per coil

Edited to add... And I can wrap them to the resistance I want/need.

It's one thing if you LIKE wrapping coils all the time.. but if you didn't have to... you wouldn't.... haha

I use these things from FT for rebuilding Kanger style BCC coils. I prefer the NR-R-NR construction so you don't be burnin your insulators and tasting rubber.

I love building stuff and it was fun at first... But... It's one less thing to fidgit with. Plus I don't have to buy a wire welder to make these things.

I buy these from fastech, $3.83 for 50 nr-r-nr coils:
$3.87 Pre-Coiled Welded Wires w/ Wicks - NR-R-NR (50-Pack) 50-pack - 34 AWG / 2.5ohm / 4-wick at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

they come handy for those bouts of laziness, and work very good.

I love these!

I've also used the regular wire ones that are a wee-bit less expensive.

It's a way to get me through to the time when I finally break into my kanthal wire and start doing coils from scratch.

In the meantime, I can pull the wicks out and replace with cotton and get the best of both worlds: being lazy and saving money

Edit: I just took a quick look at the bare coil products linked above, and that's now truly the way to go for my next order!

Now I won't have to deal with the growing pile of silica I've pulled out of the other ones ;)
