for me it's any snake close enough and big enough that you can see the fangs.....

Most snakes don't have fangs actually... Princess surely didn't (though the teeth still hurt if your hands smell like rat for some reason...)

Here in our yard we have garden snakes. They have a way of making you jump cause you don't see them til they move but they're harmless..

A much less dangerous proposition with the gophers than with the boas and pythons. Princess was 6' long and 30+ pounds.
