Went over my top cap and atomizer and couldn't see anything that looks like it might be having an intermittent short. The positive pin looks like it's pretty well insulated inside the threaded holder, and everything looked clean with no marks on it. Looks like even if that o-ring was gone all you'd get was some condensation leaking inside maybe, I don't think it actually insulates anything. Only thing I can find that might short on the atomizer is if one of it's insulators is wonky, but they looked ok. No spares on hand to try changing them though.

At around 20 hours since wiping my button now and have noticeable black buildup along that worn band under the lip of the button, and along the top edge of the button housing. Getting .4v loss now, but not getting any misfires. That's the only place I can see anything at all off on my ELA. Haven't gotten around to trying the sandpaper yet, that's on the list for later tonight hopefully.

Also, bumped the side while I was testing the voltage and now have a couple little arc marks on the top can and positive pin.

Sorry, my post before was more for anavidfan, should have specified. That particular ELA shows signs of intermittent short. Yours? Black buildup - sounds like carbon but you're not seeing arcing...hmmmm
I myself wouldn't take sandpaper to anything.
The black buildup has to be coming from somewhere - residue from cleaning stuff, arcing, or....? It doesn't just come out of thin air. Went over my ELA again which I have been using quite a bit lately to see what would happen - and - nothing.
A .4 loss may be normal depending on the condition of the battery and the load - it's not indicative of a short - possibly the black grime or, again, possibly normal.
Would suggest only using alcohol (pure as possible) to wipe down the mod (you may have already been doing this) - in order to eliminate residue as the issue.

Edited - .4 loss without a load? Hook an ohmeter up to the bottom of the button and the top cap nearest the center pin. Should be almost 0 resistance (an ohm, give or take)

I'm thinking arcing on the button as well, just not sure how to get it to stop doing it, or why it's happening. Used alcohol in the past, but it's been a while. I can give that a try here before I take sandpaper to it and see what happens.

Without cleaning button I'm getting between .5 and 1 ohm resistance there changes when I move the button, and basically zero just off the button. I'll wash it up tonight with some alcohol and see what that does.

Where on the button are we supposed to sand it? After cleaning the whole thing a couple days ago, I was getting great performance. What grit of sandpaper should we use if we try this. ThanKs wfo, I might just have to send it in. I just hate doing it.

My biggest fear is it getting lost in our amazing mail system.

Will do, I was just lazy, its been stupid hot today. I HATE the heat. I cant stand to break a sweat unless under a few circumstances.

75 and no humidity is not stupid hot. It's paradise. It's supposed to be 24 here tomorrow. Now I have to take off my Speedo and put my mukluks back on.

From what I remember reading it was take 400 grit and go lightly around the outside of the button, where it contacts the housing. Then inside the housing, it was suggested that a sharpie was just the right size to wrap it around to clean in there.

For those wondering how and what to clean when freshening up their mods, i'm going to be doing up a demo video on the exact process (and some modifications for home reconditioning) we use here at Super T on all our mods we get in under our free lifetime recondition/refinish warranty.

Anavidfan, did you want us to use your ela mods to demo with? I'd like to use some that are in need of a freshen up to best illustrate the results as we don't currently have any in house.

Pris: Send David your ELAs. They can 'star' in the vid! :)

David: A vid will be great! I am really looking forward to viewing it. Thanks!

I hope this isn't appropriate but I had to post a picture of my new mod-- ZNA/DNA30...
16h3pc.jpg

Check out the size next to my ELA/18490 un-kicked... Exact same height......I run it @ 11 watts but for fun I tried a 20 watt vape.. Super thick dense warm vapor :vapor: . Talk about a nicotine dose, made my head spin. Nach you were right, 20 watts feels like a real cigarette hit.... Battery life with the 18490 around 4 hours. I will be getting the 18650 body tube as soon as they become available again..I love the ease of adjustment vs. the Kick2... 30 watts seems a bit excessive, but who am I to judge people's vaping style... ELA/Kick2 @15 watts has all the power I will ever need..

Yes, but dont want to be without for 3 weeks like last time.
Understandable, but it's the only way we can get them to work for you as i'm afraid we've exhausted all over the internet diagnosis we can do for you. They aren't doing you much good not working and just causing you a headache which i hate to see happening to you. :(

I'm lucky enough to have an ELA performing incredibly well without really taking care of it. I just measured a 0.4 voltage drop out of an AW 18350 firing an Origen at 0.7ohms, can't really complain about that :D
I hope you'll solve your problem Anavidian and can finally start enjoying your Ela as it's supposed to be. Getting excited to know that the Stratas are nearly there now, can't wait to complete that Super awesome set-up...yes I must confess that even if I have/had quite a few mech mods so far....nothing can beat the ELA for me. I just love it and know that I won't let this one go anyday. So just a post to say thank you for this David, I know they're your babies, and you made them good :)
