Any of our normal suppliers provide only food flavorings and some, ex: Bull City, will explicitly state if a flavor contains any of the "nasties" we would rather not inhale. Dicetyl for example, is harmless and useful when ingested but potentially harmful in our vape.
There are also many, many dodgy fly by night operations, as well as flavorings in the grocery store that are not appropriate for our use. If you have to ask... you need to read through some of the many, many threads on the topic. It's too big a question to address in this thread, and there's no need to rush into DIY.
Read, learn... ask in the DIY threads. You'll be happy to have started off right. And it's fun.

:p

Northern NJ native , Coastal NC now.
Or your cost estimate. LOL. :p

The figures I've seen, counting bases, nic and the small amounts of flavor... for a modest recipe with say bits of three or four flavors, runs about $1.60/30ml.

Anything less in cost would require buying PG & VG by the gallon, something very few DIYers do.
And you're talking $.30/30ml*. No flavor or nic? Or should you run your numbers again. :)

*Where's the damn "cents" sign? :D

Let me guess , your an accountant right lol ? We are in the same ballpark .

Lol, no. And no, we're not really in the same ballpark.

Folks at ELRecipes and elsewhere, the kind who live to DIY :), have meticulously arrived at estimates around 5 or 6 cents per ml, IIRC... just in general, nothing too fancy, no massive discounts.
Your ballpark is under one cent per ml.
Jan's math on the other hand... I don't quite know where that is actually. :D

I'd ignore it but... we're often the folks who like to play around with 10% Nicotine solution.
Sometimes, the math matters. :)

Yeah, sorry... no. Do your math again. :)

Oops, you are correct. I made a mistake with my figures. The corrected numbers are:

PG/VG - $0.022 per ml
Nic - $0.088 per ml
Flavor - $0.054 per ml

Which results in $3.83 for the 120 ml that I made. These are not estimations, this is calculated from actual cost for my supplies.

Yeah, I've got about 60 flavors and haven't even used them all. I wouldn't live long enough to use them all if they were 4 oz vs. the 8 & 10ml bottles. :p

I think your numbers were off for flavoring... $0.18/ml? $0.018 maybe?

Do you buy bulk PG/VG? I don't even recall what my "little" 500ml bottles cost.

I bought larger bottles of PG/VG from my normal e cig supplier but haven't bought true bulk yet. I expect my cost to be less once I do.

I have maybe 20 flavors with 3/4 of them in 4 oz. bottles. I bought bigger sizes of the ones I knew I'd like and would mix well together.

I jumped in with an initial WLabs order of ~40 and recently one of ~20 from BCV (had to try FA :p ).
Had no real idea what I'd prefer so I kept them all 8-10ml.

There is a 4gal/$40 deal out there (1PG &3VG) but that's way outside the norm for DIYers.

That's about 15 cents per ml (2+8+5)... you want to have another go? :D

Where should nic, PG, VG and flavorings be purchased from? I saw a thread under DIY E-Liquid showing the safe flavors to buy from a certain vendor. How do I know the flavors I buy from anyone are safe to mix my juices?

I buy nic from MFS, which is also where I got the PG and VG that I'm currently using. I buy flavor from Flavor Apprentice, which has many diketone-free flavors (look for DX for those that would typically contain the compounds) and is very transparent regarding make-up of their offerings.

I was ordering from ohm's but with my second order i noticed that their juices were thin for 20pg/80vg, the nic seemed stronger than it should at 3mg, and their juices were making it hard for me to breathe(i think i just have a sensitivity to something they use because i never had that issue with any other juice). So i moved on to itc vapes. Flavor is awesome, juice is very comparable to other premium juices i've tried. Pricing can't be beat for the quality.

Quite the thread hijacking for the diy'ers math explanations! I've found that given a bit of searching juicedb.com for coupon codes I can get 120lm of juice delivered to my door for about $30.00. For the amount I vape that is worth not starting to mix my own. And not starting to mix is a choice because I'd go all bat....crazy over making awesome flavors. I just don't have the time for that right now. With 50hrs/week at work and AA meetings my life is jam packed enough.

I order from Giant Vapes and ejuices.com, usually only when I can get a good discount.
Alpha: Hoops is by far my favorite but the entire line except Heist is very good.
Totally Vaped Out: Purple Insane and Dragon's Lair

Midrange:
Keystone Vapor: I regularly order 130ml bottles of Hallelujah and Nate's Nectar. Pineapple White Tea once in a while. Great customer service
